  1. That explains all our problems, then.
  2. Unfortunately no, but I haven't tried it again recently. I just upgraded to the same OS you are using, it's disappointing to hear that the issue persists.
  3. I was hoping to export it to Marmoset for some better renders, but it looks like in order to do that I'm going to have to repaint some of the textures.
  4. Here's a closer version of the high-poly version to make it easier to see the difference.
  5. And here's the after: Look how smudgy and distorted a lot of the markings are. What can I do about this?
  6. Hey guys, So I successfully decimate the model. That brought it down from 98 Million Polys, to 14 million, which is much more manageable. The problem is that it lost all of the detail on my per-pixel painting in the process and scruwed up my shader scaling for the hull panels on this ship. What can I do about this, short of repainting the whole thing? Here's the before:
  7. I let it run for three days, then I had to cancel it. Are there any recommendations for ways to speed up the process? For instance, if I did go through all the work of UV unwrapping and making a low poly, or decimating the model would that help (high poly has 98,000,000 tris currently)? Can I decrease the light count for the AO calc (using the default of 2048)? Basically, what is the greatest factor influencing the time it takes to run the calculation?
  8. I'm using 3D Coat 4.8.10. I don't think there are any firewall concerns because the Renderman website reports a successful installation. If anything were blocking then I probably wouldn't even be able to see the site. Initially when it was installing it told me that since it didn't detect Maya that it would only install the ProServer component, but it had the option to manually choose to install the other components so I want back and did that thinking that maybe it didn't instal the parts that 3D Coat needed to detect the first time around. Tried it, same result when I hit the render preview: "Error: Renderman not intalled. Please instal Renderman from http://www.renderman.pixar.com"
  9. Did that, got the Non-Com license and everything. Installed Renderman ProServer-21.7. 3D Coat does not detect Renderman. Restarted 3D Coat. Nothing. Restarted whole computer and 3D Coat. Nothing. Any ideas, guys?
  10. I'm relatively new to 3D Coat and I've got a noob procedure question. I've got a high poly model right now that I'm ready to try painting it. I only intend to do still frame renders of it and it's not going into a game engine so I thought it didn't make sense to go through all the hassle of UV unwrapping it and making a low poly, since it looks like I can paint right onto the high poly. The only issue is that when I've tried running the AO and Curvature calculations they take an unbelievably long time. By 'long' I mean I let it run for a couple hours and it's still spinning. Would unwrapping and baking normals make this part of the process faster or am I just stuck waiting for it to take as long as it takes?
  11. Ah, I see. So it may not be reading the Manakin object correctly because it's a collection of parented objects. Interesting. I will try this, but it may have to wait until I pick a final pose for the figure. I will let you know what happens.
  12. Thanks, Carlosan. I've watched and re-watched these exact vids and several others multiple times in getting ready to tackle this project, and again looking for solutions to these issues, but I haven't found the answers there. That's what brought me to the forum.
  13. Wow, new problem. I figured out that some of my Manakin had become Surface objects instead of voxels, so I corrected that. I run the sim again and I get the opposite problem, the garment is now trying to climb UP the manakin and bunch around the head. It's alive with anti-gravity. Just bizarre. Any ideas?
  14. Hey guys, I'm a pretty new user of 3D Coat and I'm trying out the cloth simulation tool for the first time. I've watched numerous tutorials and thought I had a pretty good idea of how to to do it: built a simple garment in the Retopo room and brought it into the Sculpt room's cloth tool. However, when I run the sim the cloth object passes right through the Manakin without colliding, even though the Manakin is selected and "Stick to current object is checked." This is probably a really stupid rookie mistake, but what am I doing wrong? I cannot figure it out.
