  1. Sometimes the system would put 'read only' attribute to the folder created by 3DCoat (we don't do it on the side of the program), it could be forced by the malware protection program or other internal security software installed. So, in this case the recommendation would be to try to manually remove the 'read only' tick on the '3D-CoatV49' folder.

Please, try the following steps (at least we hear that helped other users with similar problem):

    1) Create the file coat_data_path.txt in the installation folder. Place the string D:/3D-CoatV49/
No carriage return at the end!

    2) Move all files from C:/...documents/ to D:/3D-CoatV49/
    3) clear "read-only" status in the main and all sub-directories.
    3) Run 3D-Coat and check if all is directed to the new folder now

I've been stuck with a bug for a couple years, is essential to my workflow and likely other to have it removed. If you follow my posts you will see the time and effort gone into explaining them. I've also have  a recent conversation with Andrew in my inbox about this bug. I have many projects incompleted, hours to days of work lost once the bug (black spikes) become  visible painting displacement with smart materials, a problem I don't have in zbrush when working with displacement specifically but I need to work with photoscans.  My finances are extremely low and the bug not yet fixed and it seems Andrew states he is now more committed to 3DCoat 2021  I'm afraid to put more money in at this point and have this an ongoing issue so I hope an upgrade compromise will be offered, i'm almost ready to give up on 3DCoat but I know it amazing scenes could be created with it once the issue is resolved.

Thanks for highlighting the issue. We've reported it to our engineers, it's on their radar, and Andrew is aware of your problem, as you mentioned. So hopefully a solution is found shortly.

Will there be no deal for the Amateur, I know it's only $99 but even so , a small reduction would be nice for those of us looking to get into your program. !!

Affinity even have reduction on their $40 items.

We'll have a 10% off on new Amateur licenses purchased within the upcoming Black Friday sales.

Sorry, that's a not an acceptable excuse. I would like to start working on putting aside some money for the upgrade.

Poor planning on 3DCoat's part is not an acceptable answer to a loyal customer who is now on a reduced income because of retirement.

Sorry if I appear to be argumentative or confrontational. That is not my intention.

Apologies for no specific information provided officially yet. We're planning to announce all the details on the new 3DCoat's website within the next few weeks.

Regarding the upgrade pricing question, if you own a 3DCoat V4 Professional license purchased more than a year ago, your upgrade to 3DCoat Individual is expected to cost no more than 89 euros.

Please, let us know if we could help with any other info at this point.

  5. Thanks for your interest in 3DCoat 2021, it’s going to be a big release for us, especially that on top of the traditionally strong and improved 3DCoat’s toolset, like sculpting, retopo, UVs etc, we’ll introduce a bunch of new instruments, such as nodes editor, curves, low-poly modeling, new brush engine, strong new renderer and more. All that combined should make 3DCoat an all-in-one solution for any 3D-art needs.

Now, regarding your question about the release and subsequent upgrades, we’re still having internal discussions, but our thinking is as follows: with the purchase of a permanent license (yes, we will continue to sell permanent licenses which never expire) each user will receive free program updates for a certain period of time. Most logical would be to limit that by 365 days following the date of purchase. Within those 365 days you will have free updates. And for those users who want to continue updating their program, we would charge a small fee to extend that free updates period. We’re considering a fee of 40-45 euros for the latest build with new 12 months of free updates if you purchased more than a year and less than 2 years ago. And for those who purchased over 2 years ago, the latest build with new 12-month free upgrades would cost no more than 89 euros (even if you purchased 5 years ago). Just to be clear, that upgrade fee is optional and it’s fully up to you if and when you want to get those upgrades.

As 3DCoat’s functionality grows, that fee for program updates is a forced move for us to be able to effectively continue developing and supporting the program. We understand that such a fee may look a negative move, therefore our intention is to introduce a very reasonable fee, which could be acceptable for our clients, yet able to support our continued development.

Please, let us know your thoughts.

  6. We tried to reach you by email, but it bounced back, so not sure you received the message. Just in case, here's the answer:

    ---

We can see you purchased 3DCPrinting license, while trying to activate it on 3DCoat trial install. Please, note 3DCoat and 3DCPrinting have different installation builds. Both are available as trials from our Download section.
Please, install the 3DCPrinting trial and apply your serial key to it. Should make it work then.

I have a couple of suggestions.
One is to include more specific tags.  For instance if you are searching for denim or silk like fabrics you have to scroll through a bunch of materials to see them, they are not tagged with what they actually are or what they are made from (like cotton, linen etc.).  This is also the case for others like MTL01728, to me it looks like unpolished stone or granite, but neither of those tags are applied.

And the second is that perhaps there should be a subform to deal with the smart scan store and issues there?  Not sure if there would be enough traffic to justify it, but if not make clear where people should post questions etc. about it.

Thanks for sharing your feedback Falconius, the tags idea looks reasonable indeed. We'll discuss internally what could be done to improve that.

I wish the footer on the bottom of the display would indicate if the view was in orthographic or perspective projection, I find myself looking at the 'View' menu frequently to figure out what mode I'm in, when I'm doing operations that require a certain perspective.

Thanks for the expressed feedback and ideas! That has been implemented in v4.8.34 available for download already.

If 3DCoat Printing and 3DCoat in general supported OpenSCAD here is what I'd want (ideally voxel based):

    • Editor for creating objects, with syntax highlighting
    • The ability to add a object defined by openSCAD to the primitives menu in 3DCoat
    • Compatibility with all of OpenSCADs primitives (easy) and operators (I frequently use hull() and minkowski() for complex shell operations)
    • Run an openscad script from the menu on an existing object to do a modification like drill holes in the object, or slice it up in a specific way

Thanks for the ideas expressed! We are preparing a similar solution, all actions will be written to the script, you can modify it and remake scene using the updated script.
