  1. Thank you. However, any chance I can get a DL link for 4.8.XX and earlier? I REALLY don't like this whole "sharp" edges thing. With my workflow, I simply don't need it and I see 4.9 is where it began.
  2. Okay, great. Any way that you know of that I can download THAT build? I just installed 4.9.37, and one of my current issues is that when trying to import an OBJ with multiple materials into the UV room, and I UNSELECT "Treat Materials As Separate Textures", it unselects, but it STILL imports the OBJ and assigns all the materials as separate layers, even though the patch notes state: " FBX & multiple UV sets problem fixed." Perhaps in fixing that, they overlooked the issue of trying to import an OBJ to the UV room, or perhaps that was a -different- issue. Then again, I'm not on the QA team there at Pilgway, so I just want my software to work and do the very basic tasks I need it to do. i Don't use 90% of the package. I JUST want it for UV and Retopo and to not spend 50% of my time trying to do an end-run around the mounting problems with the "Refactoring" builds that are clearly not ready for public release, and need MORE beta testing. These builds are the ONLY downloads on the 3D Coat website, and they're time-sinks, to people who live and die by deadlines on art. I couldn't care less about new functionality, when the old functionality suffers. If you can point me in the direction of an earlier build, 4.9.05 or even earlier, I'll download it. Thanks.
  3. I'm going to update to 4.9.37. I see that more than a few issues I've been having are a part of this update.
  4. Actually, upon checking update notes, looks like 4.9.37 fixes -several- issues I've been having over the course of the last few weeks. I'm going to hope updating solves the things that have been making me consider that sticking my hand in a meat grinder would feel like. Annnnd, I don't think I'm using a Beta Build, AbnRanger. I just don't have enough time in my life to bug-test software.
  5. You know, that's a fair statement, if I was using a beta build, which I'm fairly certain I'm not. I'm using the latest release from the 3D Coat website, V.4.9.34. How are these -beta- builds? I'd happily go back to an earlier version that is rock-solid, doesn't have me banging my head against my desk half the day. Can you or anyone point me toward an install that does Retopo and UV unwrapping the way it used to about three years back? That's what I bought 3D Coat for. I have software for all other aspects of my workflow, and this is driving me utterly spare. If this is what's causing all my frustration, I'll do anything I can to get it fixed. I -really- want to go back to liking 3D Coat. Believe me, but of late it's a hassle, and I'm quickly developing an aversion to using it.
  6. Who are you guys farming the work out to, because a warning message about a precise process, should not contain the word "Anyway", which in english is generally used to denote that the previous statement has little importance, and you should not pay much attention to it. Additionally, SOMEONE who speaks english needs to proof-read these alerts, because this just looks sloppy, which, considering the bugs 3D Coat has lately, shouldn't surprise me. "they was" should possibly be "they were".
  7. Sure. Why not. However, I've loop-holed the issue. that, frankly, for the sake of absolute clarity: Sharp Seams are marked EVEN IF I DO NOT SELECT THAT OPTION on the 'Import to UV' menu. My Solution: Make all normals smooth within 3DSMax before export. This, will not work well with all models, but it's going to get me through for now. Why Auto Sharp Seams are an issue in my UV flow: Because I don't want the damned sharp-marked seams getting in the way of making fast edge loops. Even if I "Clear Seams", those damned Sharp Seams marks prevent the Edge Loop tool from going past them. It's AMAZINGLY annoying and frankly, it's some sloppy design to let this Auto Sharp Seams thing slip through beta. Bad form, Pilgway. One of MANY problems with 3D Coat of late, that, I pray will get fixed soon. harp_stringboard_lowUPLOAD.obj
  8. I've exported everything as an OBJ, I'll map them all, then re-export back to Max, then re-export as FBX and I'll re-pack. I'm not sure what else to do at this point, but nothing I've tried has not resulted in messed up island layouts on some pieces, and one of the parts getting triangulated. If something changes, I'll update.
  9. So, the solution is to not use a convenient container like .FBX, when it's fairly universal? Import each part as an .obj, unwrap it, then export them all, then re-import to max, make them into an .FBX, and hope they don't retriangulate on re-import to 3DCoat, so you can pack them? That's not helpful. I'm having this issue too and it's infuriating. 3D artists live and die by deadlines and multiple errors are killing me right now. P.S. - FBX 2014/2015, nor FBX 2013, (I'm not going to test them all) does nothing helpful in the triangulation regard.
  10. Yes, that's fine but I can't even -start- a post in the 3DCoat section. What's THAT about? Sure, wait to approve but let me post there. It's irrelevant, at this point. I just want my questions answered. Okay so, I have a new problem. I'm getting my mesh in .FBX triangulated now, on import. I solved the misalignment of parts of my mesh by resetting the XForm on everything. Of course NOW, upon import to 3DCoat, my mesh is getting triangulated, with the setting above. No, I have not selected Triangulate. Now I did not select triangulate on export. Good grief. Why am I beta-testing instead of being productive??
  11. Hi Professional Software Developers, Seriously frustrated, so attempt to overlook any snark that comes through. I'll start with the forum issues. I cannot seemingly post in the 3D Coat section, nor can I reply to any posts in the 3D Coat section, neither in that section, or from the front page (Those sections are greyed out). Why can't I post there? Thus, I have posted here. 3D Coat problems. Pink Edges for 'Sharp Edges" seem to show up no matter what I do. I've seen people say: "select all edges and Clear Sharp" but, I've never seen a "Clear" sharp button on the UV-Unwrap menu. Here's my process in image format: As you can see, it defaults to the hateful pink edges even without requesting it do this, and while ia see a button proclaiming Sharp Seams, how the heck do I remove ALL sharp seams. I HATE, HATE HATE these pink marks, obscuring my seam markings. Please please turn them off by default. 3) Something it also does, which is infuriating, is move parts of my FBX file around. I've tried 'No Center Snap', I've tried 'Center Snap' selected, and without seeming cause, messes up positioning on SOME fbx files. Nothing like this happens upon importing the same files into Zbrush, Substance or Marmoset. The files originate from 3DSMax and I always export with the same settings, and sometimes, it messes up the alignment some parts in relation to other parts. 4) Sometimes, edges are very close together, and my brush will simply not get small enough to select a particular edge when trying to make a seam. It'll snap to selecting one seam close to it but it avoids the seam I want. Very very annoying. 5) Sometimes parts of a mesh, upon using 'Unwrap', tangle the hell up, and become INCREDIBLY SMALL... and it takes me ages to see that they've done that if it's a spare polygon or three, but regardless, every time I try to flatten them out, they re-tangle up and become tiny, requiring me to use a rectangular lasso to select them. Large chunks of poly-space can end up invisible in the UV Preview space. Guys, it's getting to the point that it's (I can't believer I'm saying this) easier to UV unwrap in 3DSMax. Can we please go back to making this program rock solid and really good at what it does, and be LESS worried about adding the kitchen sink?
