    Maybe something with intensity?

I think that changes the actual texture level not just the preview icon on the right.
What I did now is click the reset to restore factory default and it made the icon dim like 2022.60.  But I have to do it for every material.
    I'm using 2022.37.
Dim is better than overblown white. Alteast I can identify the texture now.

  2. I've been using shadermap pro, etc for creating normal maps from color texture. I'm sure this capability is within 3dcoat but I just can't find it.
I want to create a normal map based on the layer color of the wood. I've always done this outside of 3dc. Is there a way to do it so I can see the normal map of the wood? Thanks!

I don't know if it matters but here are my settings

I don't do the scanning myself, I send the resulting mesh from paint room to the person who does.
There are only two small issues in my experience :
-the person who does the scanning has his software set up to z-up coordinates so I have to remember to set that up every time.

-sometimes my scene loses the z-up coordinates for some unknown reason, so I have to check that the coordinate system is correct after I export.

I get the texture back and fix texturing errors, and paint untextured areas.

when baking color in 3d-coat there seems to always be loss of data, the result is more blurry than the original. I don't mind, but the person I work with does, so I rarely have the opportunity to do that when working with that person. That is why we retexture in the photogrammetry software.
otherwise there would be two options :
    1. bake from vertex paint or volumetric paint
    2. bake from an instance of 3d-coat that has the original scan loaded in paint room, and use the Textures>Texture baking tool to bake to the final cleaned up mesh exported to disk.

Thanks for the detailed explanation and screenshot. The axis issue is always a problem. Hehe. Different apps different method.

  4. I always wondered, is this a bug or my misunderstanding of 3dc.

I set texture workflow to roughness/metal and paint 0 roughness, 100 metal brush stroke. It's very shiny.

50% roughness layer opacity. It becomes blurry. It should be opposite right?

0% roughness layer opacity. This should actually be very shiny.

100% roughness and 0% metal layer opacity. It becomes shiny plastic. Again I think this is opposite.
