  1. I want to use 3d Coat for book covers, and then sell those book cover images to authors, who will then sell them on to their readers. I've read that other 3D designers use 3D coat for book covers, but I just want to make sure that, that is allowable within the 3D coat license agreement? And/or is there anything I need to be aware of in regards to doing that? Does the author need to agree to anything, license wise, in regards to me using 3D coat? I sent a message to 3D coat support a few days ago, but haven't had a reply yet.
  2. Is that surface mode? I've looked in the options in sculpt mode and I can't find the options you mention above. I'm mostly using Extrude with a stencil.
  3. In sculpt mode is there a way to increase the number of tris in a specific area? I remember there was a video where it mentions using a brush to tesselate a specific area but I can't find the video and I'm not sure if 'tesselate' means add more tries? Or is it better to split/copy the area and then increase the resolution of that new shape? Or is it better to do anything like that in surface mode?
  4. I've been playing around with various brush designs I've created in Photoshop, and I've found then when I apply them as a line to a sloped surface they can look quite jagged at the edges. So a work around I've come up with is to apply the brush shape to a flat, straight surface and then rotate/move the surface (which I've cut out) into position and by doing that you don't seem to get the jagged effect. I've attached an image which shows the top left work around and the lower brush extrude and you can see there's a big difference. But my question is, is there a way to get nice smooth edges on the brush shape, just by applying it directly to a sloped surface, without getting the jagged edges? I'm happy to do the work around but thought I'd ask incase I'm missing something.
  5. Is there a way to apply a brush alpha to a voxel surface, so it tiles? So the image is applied and snaps to the next width/height over and is applied again? I've been trying to use the dotted stroke and varying the spacing, but I was wondering if there's a more straightforward way that tiles the brush.
  6. This is just a general question regarding why to use one mode over the other. Are there any specific reasons to use surface mode over voxel mode, other than it runs faster? I did a search on here, and I couldn't find any reason to use surface mode, or in other words, there are no reasons you have to use surface mode, is that correct?
  7. You mean number of tris? I've attached another image, it's about 7 million, but it still looks jagged. Should my alpha image be bigger than 4096?
  8. I created a test alpha in photoshop of 4096 x 4096 (Just the letter A on an alpha background) but inside 3D coat it looks very jagged along the edges and blurry. Is there something I have to do to make it look clear to give a clear edge when applied to a surface?
  9. It brings up the dialogue box with the userpreferences folder selected. So I can just select my .jpg/.png? Does it have to be a certain format?
  10. I know this is a basic question, but I've searched on google and on here, and also looked in the folders that come with 3d Coat, but just find, .json or .xml files in the stencils/alphas folder. if I have a basic black and white shape in photoshop, how do I turn that into a brush or stencil and get it into 3D coat to be used?
  11. So hide is like using a mask in photoshop?
  12. 2 questions. 1) Why use hide instead of using cutoff and delete? 2) Is it possible to carve/cut slightly into a model, to create like ruts (straight lines) in the surface. Most of the tools I've seen add to the surface, but how would create dents or lines into the surface and have not go below a certain depth? So that the ruts would be a fixed depth?
  13. That was the latest version when I downloaded it a week ago. I'm using the trial version. Where's .90 version?
  14. I'm completely new to using 3d coat, but I'm trying to do something I've seen on videos and it doesn't seem to work on my version. I'm using a Mac, with Big Sur, 11.6, I haven't upgraded to the latest OS yet. I'm wondering if that's causing an issue. I created a cube. I then want to subtract with a smaller cube from the bigger cube, but the only option is 'add' and clicking on the dropdown does nothing, the subtract option etc doesn't come up. I also noticed in the sculpt tree, clicking the ghost or voxel presentation icons for the new layer of the first cube I created, does nothing as well. Am I missing something obvious?
  15. First post here. I'm looking at various 3D options for creating 3d space ships. 3D coat looks great, but I'm a bit concerned about the jaggedness of some of the models I've seen. Is it possible to create clean lines for the final render? Is the general workflow to model with the voxels and then to turn it all into a more simple mesh to get clean lines at the end of the process? Also in regards to stencils, is it possible for a stencil to produce a varied height when applied? like a bump map?
