1. +1 for adding the ptex tab. It would also be nice to be able to change the quick load thumbnails with 5 or 6 custom scenes/objects to load for each tab (ppp, voxel, mv, ptex). And add another tab called "Projects" that shows the last 5 or 6 recently loaded scenes (with images). With these additions, the startup window would be much more useful for me.
2. Textures can be referenced by adding them in the shader: sampler CustomSampler1;//corresponds to texture Shaders/CustomSampler1.dds
So if I create a new texture that I want to use in the shader, I just need to add another line below CustomSampler1:
sampler CustomSampler2;
Then create the dds file in "[3D-Coat folder]\Shaders\Custom\[Name of new shader]\CustomSampler2.dds" I think you can go up to 8 CustomSamplers. But I would not touch CustomSampler3, It's used for selection mask coloring.
3. Thanks Andrew! I just rediscoverd how nice the multires proxy is. Edit: Undo does not seem to work with the decimate proxy after switching modes.
4. Andrew, thanks for the work on the multires proxy and decimation, I look forward to using it! Not that I know of, entering numbers into the numeric box works fine for me. Maybe it's a bug, what 3DC version and OS are you running?
5. Confirmed using 3.7.12E(DX64) The pose tool seems to work fine for me until I start using LiveClay. Then I run into what you are describing, mesh ripping apart. Does Voxel -> Cleanup Memory fix it for you?
6. It seems to be broken in 2.63 but it works in 2.62.
7. Bump. At least for a "Pick from retopo" button for a custom free form lattice in the pose tool.
8. Thanks haikalle. FBX and LWO also support vertex colors.
9. +1 For some reason I can't get the multires to work for me. I click to downgrade a (voxel or surface) layer, and it just flashes to the downgraded version then back to the full res. Maybe I just need to do a fresh install. Edit: I'm using 3.7.12E(CUDA)(DX64)
10. haikalle, have you thought more about adding vertex color support?
11. It would make lining up a face texture onto a model quicker. +1
12. Impressive as ever and great modeling so far!
13. @johnnycore I'm kinda leaning toward this option, squeeze some more speed out of my computer until I can upgrade the CPU at a later time. Thanks for the offer of the modules, I'm just wondering what the shipping would be from the Netherlands to the USA. @geo_n I wish I could add a 4th option of "You wake up one morning and find your bank account has multiplied and you decide to buy all three options" The main features I'm looking for are a preview renderer and instancing, which both Lightwave and Modo have. I use LW10 at work and I find VPR quite useful. Yes, more ram is a must. @geothefaust Unfortunately I was not ready to jump on the Modo wagon while they were having their crossgrade offer. And currently they have no plans on doing that again. I'll be keeping my eye on them in case another opportunity arises. @DavidF blender is one reason that I want to get the new graphics card, cycles is nice. I've been using blender more and more lately. Thanks guys for your wisdom, and those that voted also!
14. That looks pretty cool and surprisingly accurate. I might get tired of holding my arms up over long periods of time though.
15. Good start, keep working at it! Bring the knees up a bit and set the head back further, more centered with the body.
16. Although the poll is geared toward Lightwave and Modo users, I would appreciate opinions from anyone. I have a set budget that I could either: Buy a new computer that is approximately 2x faster (or at least a good bit faster from what I have read) Q6700 to an i5 2500k 6Gb to 16Gb of ram. GeForce 250 GTS 1Gb to a GeForce 560 Ti 2Gb (128 cuda cores to 384) Or Upgrade from LW 9.6 to LW 11 (or Modo when crossgrade option is available) and a GeForce 560 Ti 2Gb Also, I have 2 other comparable computers I can use as render nodes.
17. Thanks for the link, looks like it could be a cool armature creation tool for 3DC.
18. You should be able to right click on a shader and select "Select Default Shader".
19. Very nice dinos! Did you upload a turntable?
20. Thanks Andrew! The free-form pose is alot better but the pose tool seems to be broken with liveclay with different geometry densities. The SurfHide is a really nice addition, but new polys pop out of hiding if liveclay is used with a higher res. It doesn't seem to break anything though. Marking hard edges in the retopo room would be a very useful feature to go along with the additional support of smoothing group. Adding a "use as gloss map" mode to the paint room (for voxel, ppp, mv, ptex) would really be useful also. I was just needing a ghost mode, thanks!
21. a ".3dcpack" file is just a renamed ".zip" file. I have to add the zip extension to be able to upload to the forum. Renaming in Win 7 is just like in XP, what error are you getting when you try to remove the ".zip"? The final file name should be "GC_MP_Depth and VColor.3dcpack"
22. Very cool! Is that image also rendered in 3DC? Maybe one day the render room can allow for screen shaders so that bloom, dof, color adjusting and other shaders can be created.
