  1. The texture seems all wrong, when I setup texture in blender from 3dCoat exports. I am guessing that it maybe the orientation of the texture or map?
  2. Why, no matter what depth value I set. It still seems to be at the same depth when I do a "cut off"??
  3. BTW, do I need to mess around with the shader to be able to get a decent result from multiple layer of smart materials? Still trying to just use fill and depth to create the layer effect. So maybe, the only way is to actually create a multi layer smart material, instead of have multiple smart material on a object. ?? Very puzzle indeed!!
  4. Interesting, so you are actually editing the smart material itself. I was using the fill under painting pane to apply multiple smart material with different depth value (voxel paint?). At least that's what my interpretation of the 3dCoat youtube video. I am not sure if I had understand it correctly. It seems like that the solution that you had kindly suggest, is to actually created a new smart material that have multiple layers. So technically, you would only be applying one smart material it's just that it have multiple layers. I am yet to try it, but if it works, than it's works. Thanks, poeboi for showing another way for achieving the end result. So I can at least get to where I would like to go.
  5. I tried using fill to create multiple layers of smart material as shown from 3dCoat youtube video. Don't seem to be able to create anything more than 2 layers. Did I do something wrong? How does the depth actually work? Do I have to have a really thick layer for the bottom layer, and have layers with thinner depth on top. So the depth always start from the surface, so if two smart material have the same depth, then only one smart material would be shown. Help would be greatly appreciated.
  6. Just download a smart material from PBR Library. When I use it within 3DCoat, 3DCoat complain about missing bump map in a locations that doesn't existing on my computer. It seems to be pointing to location on the server?? Please let me know where I could download the required bump map and fix the problem with smart material. Thanks, AL

    How to Retopo

Should be called "paint mesh" How do you create paint objects on your own? How does 3dCoat decide what is a paint object? Because when I import a mesh into the UV room, 3DCoat had already created a list of paint objects, are they just UV islands from the mesh?

    How to Retopo

Okay, I think I get it now. I am try to use the quad tool straight up. It seems that 3dcoat doesn't like that. I have to have one polygon first before building up with quad tool. Why may I ask. Thx Alf

    How to Retopo

Sorry, I am not even sure that I do have a mesh in paint room. I see a mesh when I am in paint room, but I notices that there is no polygroups. The sculpt tree has only root, which mean there is nothing, doesn't it. So where exactly is my mesh. do we have another mesh that exists on in the UV room? I am determine to make it work with 3DCoat, really hate the subscription business that is going on all around the software industry!!! Thx, Alf
  10. I got a mesh in paint room, how do I get to retopo and create a low-poly model? I want to manually create the low-poly mesh. How do I do that using the mesh in paint room. Do I need to export it to a obj and then using that to retopo? The problem is I already done the UV for the mesh in paint room. Cannot seem to be able to use that mesh for reference in retopo room!!!! Tried get a sculpt mesh, and from there get into the retopo room. It did something but still can't get any actual mesh created in retopo room! Do I need to create a new poly group and start doing my retopo? Thx, Alf
  11. Maybe you guys should start something like the #askExpensiveCorporateBrush :) :), and do one better have a hot girl answering all the questions . I am such a sucker for hot girl, everything they said sound 10x more correct and don't even care if I can't understand a word they had just said Just joking, but something like that could speed things up for the community maybe Thx Carlosan. Seems like you are the only one answering all the question
  12. Good, but it too far down the road. I am just starting out. So my question is really basic. What will someone do if they want to create a brush to use in 3DCoat with max. resolution and color-depth. In other word, a brush that would give very fine details. 1. What would someone use to create the file(s). Well, I am low on budget, so gimp, krita, etc..... Whichever one is least complicated, in other words, you don't have to do lots of steps to get thing to work properly in 3Dcoat. 2. Within the software that is used to created the fiile(s) for brushes creation. Some details on what kind of files is needed and the structure of those files. Do I use layers Do I use channels 3. After creating those files, how do I actually bring it in to 3Dcoat. Used import menu item in 3DCoat, or just move those file(s) to certain folder(s), and 3Dcoat would load it when it starts up. I know there must be some post somewhere that someone had ask the exact same question as this one. Just don't know which one has the correct and most up to date information. I know Photoshop would be best option, but don't like their pricing structure (subscription). The exact reason that I had choose 3DCoat. Again, I do think 3DCoat could be big, only if more/better documentation is available. Thx for helping out, Alf
  13. Dear 3Dcoat, I read https://3dcoat.com/documentation/manual/brush-components/brushes/create-brushes-decals/ , but still a bit confused on a lot of details on creating a brush for 3Dcoat. Some specific questions 1. What file format does 3Dcoat use for it's brushes (e.g. psd, tif, png????) Color depth, resolution(image size), etc...... 2. How should the file be structured? (Four layers? All layers have alpha? What the difference between Erase Mask and alpha?) 3. How do I actually import the created brush into 3Dcoat? Do I place it somewhere, or do I use a "import" menu item or something totally different? Great piece of software, but only if I could make the most of it. Really don't have much time to search around all day in the forum, and decide which one to trust and which one to just ignore. Thx for help Alf
  14. Thx, but which one should I use. The one with the "preset" extension or the with "3dcpack". Look a bit small to me. Just 1M for the "preset" and 416K for the other one. I am looking for all alpha, stencils and all others goodies. You can download it one by one on the download site, but you need to download it one by one, and there seem to be a daily limit on how many you could download. Am I missing something critical here. Is there somewhere that I could downlead a pack or something that have everything in it? Thx.
  15. So 3DC V4 have a large amount of assets preloaded? Where can I get a hold on those? Since I don't have V4? I only have the new version. Thanks
  16. Just wondering, where can I find presets. It's has close to nothing in it. I see so many videos on YouTube that have tons of presets showing. I am new to 3DC, so is there a pack that I had to download or I have to setup the directory in the preference to make all those brush presets available. Thanks, AL
  17. I see in numerous YouTube videos showing a lot of preset in the preset panel. I don't see any in mine? Is my 3DCoat broker? Thanks, Alf
  18. Just a thought. The open wheeler looks cool in the 3DC front page. Any chance that someone could create a start to end tutorial on creating just that So some dumb fxxk like me could following along and well pretty much know how to create something from start to finish. And have something cool to play around with in the end A ship is too boring
  19. Yes, I don't think they will change the interface. It just that I could kiss goodbye for any interesting new features. Looking at the price they are asking for a upgrade! They are all pushing for subscription, so that they can keep getting the money while not needing to come up with good interesting features that people would be willing to pay for. Anyway, 3DCoat look promising. Just need a bit of polish. Who knows what would happen if it get enough users. I may need to start looking for another program again
  20. I think I will just have to search around a bit more, and spend some MORE time. Sorry, I just switch to 3Dcoat from the other popular 3d program (they decide they don't like hobbyist anymore). So would like to spend less time to learn a new interface, and more on actually creating stuff.
  21. Okay, looking at the official documentation, now. So that one checked. Tutorials are still too unstructured (no path to follow, just search around and watch whatever is there and hope that it all clicked!). Would be good if there is something that give the concepts behind why/how the UI is the way it is. Well, maybe show the correct way to use the tools. What they are intended to do that sort of thing.
  22. No money for training Already spent it on the software! Yes, the amount of youtube video is the problem. Some of it are posted ages ago, so I would think they must be out of date. Don't want to waste time for something that may not even work on the current version of 3Dcoat. Is there a official manual of some sort, so I could at least go to that for the final word. Like the price of 3DCoat, now the only problem is how can I make full use of it's power! Also, since the brush engine has been updated, so there is no presets for any brushes? Is that correct, so where can I find a really good basic step by step guide/tutorial, so that I could re-make/create a set of brushes that would make sculpting a little bit easier and faster. Or the presets are there, just that I had to make so changes to setting, so that 3Dcoat knows where to look for presets? Thanks for any help.
  23. I am looking for up to date tutorials on 3d coat. Many video are old and 3dCoat had change since, so very hard to follow. A official documentation don't seem to exist doesn't really help. I really would like to use 3dCoat, but now it's just a piece of software that just doesn't get use that often, since I just don't know how.
  24. Cannot seem to be able to join any of the discord server list on this forum!
