  1. Hi, Trying to familiarize myself as much as possible with the painting tools. As mentioned in the "Introduce Yourself" thread I am working in the small cottage industry of Poser/DAZ Studio. My beta testers found a few seams in my skin I made partially from resources and my works in Photoshop so looking for a way to blend out the seams on the maps as well as other bits. I tried my hand as making a material using some merchant skin resources and while I like them they are way to dark for my needs and I assumed I could lighten them up using the Material Editor but I had no such luck making that happen so not sure what to there besides doing all the lightening up in Photoshop and saving them back out. Also wondering about the fall off of the brushes and if I can control those a bit more as I want to really feather out the edges allot so I can retain allot of the detail I have already but blend it out with the overlay of the new material. When I imported the "Tina" obj I opted for the breaking it all up into various bits so I think I made a mistake doing that so I'll probably have to reimport her and keep it simple (head, limbs, legs) so I don't have to keep switching around. Also, is there a way to import and entire folder of materials rather than just one at a time? I'm sure there must be a way but ..... Thanks for the help, hopefully! Richard
  2. Hi all, Old newbie here. Been playing with 3DC for years now but as I've been getting more and more involved with the small cottage industry of Poser/DAZ Studio I wanted to get more familiar with 3DC for things like making skin maps and morphs and what not. I am 56 years old and I currently reside in the overly expensive area of Redwood City, California. I've always been known as the "class clown" in about every circle in RL and on line so I may, in time, get silly and hopefully crack you up.... or not... but that's not my problem! Enjoying a mostly tolerable mild summer but I really want more rain, I do NOT want to go back to a drought situation any time soon, no fun, considering I work my real job doing hair so washing hair, rinsing out color and perms is just so wasteful but can't be avoided. Any who hopefully the friendly folks here will tolerate my many questions as they come up. My current works are creating products for Hivewire 3D's Dusk and Dawn figures, currently finishing up the brother and sister Tommy and Tina for them. I'm pretty good in Photoshop and ZBrush and want to get much better in 3DC as I get more and more familiar with the many tools in this wondrous program. Thanks for the help in the past... now to go make a thread about skin help I need..... Richard
  3. Thanks so much, I'll pass on the information to my bud then!
  4. I have a buddy on another forum that thinks that you have to have an "always on" internet connection to run 3DCoat. I mentioned that I think once he has it registered he wouldn't need to have that particular computer connected to the internet. Part of the concern is, as it is for many of us these days, are worms and viruses and ransom ware that would get into the system so having a work machine that's NOT connected the internet is feeling safer. So wondering for his desires .... Thanks so much Richard
  5. Got is all sorted finally. Thanks Carlosan!
  6. Thanks so much. I've got an issue with my account being associated with an email address I don't want it associated with so been frustrated with trying to log on. I got back in but using the wrong email address and this system won't let me change it. When I do it tells me there is someone already using the email address... duh, it's me. So if your friendly with one of the mods here let them know I'm WAITING for a response to either my rich1344 or my ramarts44 account. Thanks again for all your help with tattoo issue, very much appreciated! :-) Richard
  7. Hi, Working on a character design, I've tried all I can in other programs but here I am again begging for help as so far 3DCoat just about fits the bill but for one issue. The tattoo is a color diffused one so I need it to remain color not black and white and all I could find was the stencil area. I need an area like the stencil but with color. Also when I tried saving the file out again I got an error message so I had to created an .o2 version of that same file, I'd prefer to save over my previous save if possible. Not sure if that's a bug or an unwanted feature. Also, 2, When I wanted to replace the torso texture with my backed up untattooed one I got it replaced but the program must have had some gloss channel on that I didn't expect and there are just too many options for textures in the drop down so I just reloaded the entire project without the tattoo so perhaps with this newest upgrade there are changes I'm not aware of? Anyway, I need some advice on NOT having the tattoo shiny, that's not what normal tattoo's do so I don't want that. Thanks for the help and advice Richard
  8. Not sure how to do that as it's pretty heavy map wise. If there is a correct and an incorrect way to import in the mapped model that would be helpful to know. that well may be what's going on. Thank you!
  9. Hi and thanks. Yes, I did find this beginners series. I do know how to use the cloning brush in PS so that's fine but I don't know if it's how I imported in my premapped model or what but when I try to use the cloning brush or even the paint brush nothing happens. So something isn't right. Any tips to try to troubleshoot that? Thanks again!
  10. That would be fine but I'd like an in depth tutorial, video if possible, on how to use the brush or clone tools. As stated I loaded up the face texture to use as a source and when I tried to use the brush tool nothing seemed to happen. So not sure how to go about this! Thank you!
  11. Hi, Any tutorials, vids if possible, for fixing texture seams? I have set up Dusk from Hivewire with a texture map I made but there are some noticeable seams between the head to the top of the head and under the neck I need to fix. I have exported Dusk with the maps so that's loaded up in 3DCoat. I tried to understand how using a texture map as a "source" to fix the seams but nothing happens when I use the brush so I'm a loss. Thanks for the help! Richard
  12. BIG Congratulations. OMG. This update puts this program many steps ahead of other "leaders". WOW. So impressed when I watched the youTube intro. Thanks so much for all the dedicated work you and your team have put forth! Rich
  13. Yea, I'm the same... I use only the 64 bit version of ZBrush. This app link needs an update to include a 64 bit.
  14. Hmmm but then wouldn't my verts be all messed up, so then it wouldn't work as a morph target for the original mesh or would it? I don't think this is the solution I was after if not. The conformer is made and has allot of morphs already added to it so if this would cause me to start anew I can't take that sort of time..... I may see about using Poser's draping room and see if that will work..... Thanks for taking the time to reply, I appreciate it. Richard
  15. Hi, A friend told me that 3D Coat has draping. If so is there a tutorial (possibly a vid) that someone can direct me to to learn how to work with this tool? I'd need to import a posed figure and then a clothing item I made in ZBrush. It's to make joint controlled morph's to help with how digital cloth lies over the figures form when posed. Thanks so much Richard
  16. Thanks. When installing though, made me a bit nervous... the applink native built in link is for ZBrush 4 not ZBrush 4.7. Had to change the path a bit too. Hope it works....
  17. So glad there are applinks to other programs. I did notice there was a PS logo floating around in the animation.. I don't see one for Photoshop. Is there one? I snagged the ZBrush one, so thanks so much for that! :-)
  18. OMG. this is awesome. I just found this Applink looking over this other website called Vectorized Nature. THANKS!
  19. Hi Michalis, Are you at all in the know about this question... will there ever be a way to export an obj in quads from Sculptris rather than having to jump through the retop hoops?? I'm such a newbie when it comes to most of this stuff and while I LOVE Sculptris anything exported directly isn't very useful in most apps. I tried importing a little sculpt into Hexagon... CRASH! lol Silo 2.0 (I have 2.2 but it's really buggy) didn't know what to do with it and eventually crashed too. I barely know my way around 3DC, I can paint in the program but that's about it. ZBrush I own but I dread invoking it! lol Thanks!
  20. OK, I figured out how to lighten the load so to speak. The depth channel was turned on full blast so once I got that turned off completely and waited for the program to process all that then things started moving along. I do notice though that my system is quite slow after I've saved and exited the program. I have a modern system. Win 7, 64 bit, i7 930 2.93Ghz processor with 6 gigs of DDR 3 RAM and all that, plenty of disk space too, PLENTY! Not top of the line but I think it SHOULD be OK to run apps like this. ZBrush and Sculptris run fine so there is something I'm either not going about correctly or a setting that I need to tweak to get it more in line with what my system can do. Not sure That's why I'm asking! Thanks again!
  21. Hiya, I have the latest update to 3D Coat, just installed it a few hours ago. I'm interested, once again, in learning how to texture using this program. I'm interested in texturing a model named Michael 4 from DAZ3D. I've imported him, left most of the default options but I did change the default texture size to 4000 (or what ever it is, it's large) (nice update by the way, seemed to do that for all the rest of his zones throughout his body) In any case, I imported in a skin swatch to use to paint the bare coat on him before getting into detailing him. I was going along fine but then I got to his head and BAM .... freeze and after that it was like that when I got him rotated to start on the back side of his body. So my thoughts are my core or memory must be sucked up and there is no scratch disk for the program to work from to release memory. I'm guessing there are other tricks to make this work better but I'm a newbie, even though I've had a license for quite a while. Life gets in the way and the 3D stuff gets shoved aside. SO now I've made a little room in my life for this and wanted to re-explore trying to use 3D Coat for my texturing needs. Is there a way to use a fill tool using the swatch or do I just have to paint it on slowly since it's loaded as a projection background?? Thanks for the help. If none is going to come I'll just try to suss it out myself I guess. Richard
