  1. I've been using Octane for a while.. I really love the speed + quality! But I decided to switch back to Houdini's Mantra renderer, I found Octane render a bit too limited.. you dont have support for particles, volumes, huge data sets, and Ptex.. I use these three quite often. Houdini's Mantra renderer is really worth checking out if you like to use Ptex, and/or displacement maps.. And it goes along hand in hand just fine with 3DCoat..
  2. Hmmm August 19th.. I might be able to participate.. need to finished other portfolio projects first.. Thanks for sharing!
  3. It would be nice to have "Paint with Ptex" also in the startup screen, I dont know why this is not an option by default, it is a different painting technique from per pixel and microvertex painting so I expect it also to be at the startup screen. Since I use Ptex as standart it really has become a pain that it is not available through the startup screen.
  4. Cool nickname, GoT fan? Anyways.. can I see some screenshots please? This way I can see more whats going on.
  5. If you have good UV's theres a workaround to achieve this effect: http://www.etsy.com/listing/61248085/titanium-wide-ring-textured-knurl In paint room: - Activate any tileable mask - Go to: Texture -> Texture UV Editor - Use the fill tool on a UV Island in the UV editor You should get a perfectly tiled image, this only works with UV island with minimal seams, this does NOT work in Ptex..
  6. @3DArtist It should cost me 17,10 euros to ship to Amerika, just looked it up.. These are 2x4GB DDR3 1333mhz btw instead of 1066mhz got mistaken with the module type.
  7. Hi guys, Just upgraded my desktop to 16GB, which leaves me with 10GB DDR3 1333mhz modules (2x4GB + 1x2GB) Dont know what to do with it so I tought I mighth donate it to any of the 3DCoat forum members.. Give me a PM or post in this topic if you are interested..
  8. Have you tried lowering your screen resolution? Which result in a more compact screen (bigger font/bigger cursors), also increases performance..
  9. I usually use "X" just like in photoshop..
  10. If you keep posting daily eventually it will get removed.. I guess somewhere at 25 posts.. Just be patient..
  11. Seems like you' ve got enough CPU power: All of these options sound good.. personally I wouldnt upgrade the CPU, it should still be good for now. I would recommend upgrading software + GTX 560 Ti (+ RAM if possible) Upgrading RAM + Geforce GTX 560 Ti will increase lots of performance. Funny thing is I upgraded to 16GB + GTX560 Ti last week.. will get my new desktop somewhere this week.. I've got some spare 2x4GB 1066mhz modules btw.. Im giving them away for free so if you would like to have em you can contact me.
  12. Yea I actually meant right click --> edit shader ..
  13. Do you want to change the color of the shader? You can ddo this by double clicking on your shader and adjust some of its colors, the color picking only works for painting. Make sure you change the shader of the correct model in the voxtree. Im not 100% sure this is what you meant but I can find any other reason to use the color picker in the voxel room so I just went with that..
  14. Would you please like to update a bigger screenshot? Perhaps one that is not cropped, would like to see what settings you turned on/which room you are working in/what tool you're using currently. I can only guess at this point..
  15. What I usually do in Cinema 4D concerning ptex + normal maps is I try to fit them in one normal map.. you can do that easily by using the Ptex local resolution tool (the one at the bottom of your toolbar). You can press: fit in one texture and boom, should be fixed.. Also try rendering with the physical renderer.. somehow the standart renderer does not remove the seams with its filtering technique.. That is weird .ptx should be just .ptx files, works like a charm in Houdini and Maya 2012.. can you make some screenshots? Or could you please tell me more about this problem?
  16. Thanks! Hopefully I will have some time withing the next two weeks..
  17. It has been a while since I had some time left to do some sculpting.. currently working a fulltime job + some webdesign at night + studying.. it has been been quite some rough months for me lately.. Anyways I found some spare time today.. roundabout 1 / 2 hours.. so I decided to do some sculpting and post the result for today.. im no sure when I will have some time left again to continue with this.. Feedback is always welcome! this is not final.
  18. Do you get any errors? Have you installed directx 9?
  19. Hmm.. well I usually dont sculpt in Voxel mode, only to create some volume to sculpt with in surface mode. Anyways: I tried some stuff.. it is not possible to do such a thing in voxel mode, I think this has to do with the fact that voxels are always uniform divided. However I found a workaround.. you can make some creased edges in voxel mode, from here go to surface mode (your model stays the same) use the TSmooth at a low setting and revert back to voxel mode.. Not sure if this is the right way to do so but I dont know anything else I could try..
  20. Are you sculpting in voxel or surface mode? You can try using the TSmooth tool when you're in surface mode at a low value, works quite ok for me..
  21. You should turn off: translate brush along curve, I dont really know why but it works..
  22. You can select a curve point and in your tool box you can see theres an option "add rotation" when you play around with this setting you'll see the profile rotates on the selected point. I hope this is what you meant.
  23. Hi GIan-Reto, Good to hear I could help out!
  24. I've prepared a short videofor you to demonstrate how I usually create multiple cloth pieces. I also showed a feature how you can define the baking range from your retopo to sculpt, this feature is mostly forgotten in the baking process. For actual baking ontop of a model you need to switch the other retopo models off, you have to bake them seperately.. Another handy thing to know: you cannot import/export models when you are in select mode thats why I switched it on/off I hope this helps you. retopo.rar
