  1. Just came back from checking Affinity Designer in their web site, looks slick. They're working on Affinity Photo as well apparently ( Like you mentioned ). You know what's next when's the Windows versions coming and it will be interesting to see the price after the free Beta.
  2. Check out Inkscape and see how it compares.. I used it a few years ago for a project and it was pretty solid/easy to use. Plus it's free. They support Windows, Mac and Linux.
  3. For Max and it's plugins, you could almost say Krakatoa is a different app sitting on top of max, same with RealFlow (insert big plugin here)..etc Those are pipeline tools driving max. Either way, as long as those add-ons/companion modules play nice with the host app, I don't have a problem switching panels.
  4. Ancient Regime, Did you get to ask them about Modo's sculpting module? Any new upcoming cool features? I'm debating for a Modo 801 license.. It's on sale atm.
  5. Hmm interesting, thanks for the heads up! I didn't know about that.. Which OS/Version are you running? Also, can you run the same tests with 3DCoat OpenGL and see how things stack up? I have a 770gtx with 340.52 drivers, I'll run a few tests.
  6. I watched most of the presenters yesterday and one thing struck me was, every single presenter was at one point or another fumbling in the interface and menus to find where things were. These guys are pros.. That's my major turn off with ZB.. Feature wise, what an amazing product but re-work that interface for ZB 5 please!
  7. With the Surface Pro 3 now having a N-Trig digitizer instead of a Wacom, I'd be interested in finding out as well.
  8. Nothing irks me more than what AD did, buy the top 3 packages and kill one off (for now). I'm happy we have great AD alternatives, I look at Pixologic, Modo, Houdini, C4D, 3DC, LW and I'm amazed at what they come up with every year, just sad to see SI go.
  9. Man... I have to say I'm on the fence on this one, remove the 7k export limit and leave the rest 'as is' and I'm in.. Reason for removing the limit is, I would probably retopo in 3d-coat instead of Modo. But other than that, it's a killer deal.
  10. hehe nice. I shall name him Goatbird.. It's first thing that came to my mind when I saw the head shape and white wiskers
  11. Actually, I'm rooting for Mantle.. Remember DirectX 10 was Vista only and DX 11.x is Windows 8 only? That's held DX10, DX11 adoption back, that's why you mainly see DX9 games release even these days. One of two things needs to happen, either OpenGL needs to regain traction or something completely out in the left field comes in and gives DX a run for it's money, like Mantle. DX tied to Windows version = worst idea ever.. My 2c
  12. Well looks like I'm going to have to eat my words, they have a solution to play windows games with their streaming option Interesting!
  13. Here's my take on it, I would love to see Linux succeed as a PC gaming platform.. If they could somehow get a large % of current windows games to run under Linux/Steam, it would definitely catch people's attention. Regardless if they used Wine, transgaming..etc.. just get a large selection of 'Steam' supported windows games there and make a case for future native linux games. Porting their catalog is a start but it's not enough IMO. Last weekend I was cursing up a storm at Windows 8 on my mediaPC, I ended up installing Ubuntu with XBMC..etc and everything worked. My legit copy of Windows 8 is officially retired.. It went from my main workstation to my HTPC to my recycle bin. Steam Linux Gaming... Bring it!
  14. Hi BeatKitano, The Surface Pro levels of pressure is 1024 with palm rejection. There was a driver issue at launch I beleive that made it not pressure sensitive at all, has long been resolved with MS implementing compatibility with the Wintab API.
  15. For 2D art and ZB, I'd probably go for a MS Surface Pro or the soon to be announced Surface Pro 2 instead, at $2400 for the Wacom pro tablet, it's way, way out there.
  16. I was puzzled by the price and specs, at those prices I was expecting Samsung Attiv Q. type of specs. Dunno.
  17. I use Blender, 3DCoat, Gimp and Unity 3D.. That's pretty much my pipeline. I went through the exact same thing as TimmyZDesing, I followed the CG-Cookies tutorials but couldnt get used to Blender's Navigation. When you selected the Maya config, you lost the Blender hotkeys so a couple of months ago I decided to bite the bullet and spend some time customizing the Navigation to be like Maya while retaining all of Blender's hotkeys.. That's what did it for me, I absolutely love working in Blender now. I dont know why that config is not part of Blender by default. @bisenberger, isn't it crazy what's appenning with AD? XSI is pretty much dead now and Max.. Well who knows where Max is heading.
  18. Do you usually get inspired or depressed by other artist's work? I gotta admit when I saw these on Pixo's gallery, it was the ladder.. So much talent and details. http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?179420-Musketeer http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?1036030&p=1036030 This summer at work, we had to take a course on personal development so we could better interact with others, learn the types of personallities and learn how to best to deal with them. In the process I learned that I was more of a 'big picture' type of personallity instead of a details oriented one.. In other words, I can 'learn' how to go into detail but it's not an innate skill. I have to make a concious effort. The upside of this is I dont get overwhelemed by big projects, I see the big picture with a clear ending and I dont have to jot down a thousand steps to keep track of everything, I generalize. The down side is, when I see the above artwork, it completely floors me, I dont think I'd go in that much detail, I would of turned over the peice much earlier. Great for iterations, bad for spectacular peices. My question is, do you think you're a more detail oriented personality or a more iterative/big picture personality? Does detailing come naturally to you or you have to push yourself? Do you get inspired or discouraged by crazy talent? btw, there's no right or wrong answers, just different ways of approaching a task
  19. I think it looks amazing, I cant wait to see it in action on the live stream. Newtek forums arent as impressed, reminds them of Core.. I think there's probably a good part of the Core tech in there, Hydra comes to mind. Also, there's no way the old Modeler could handle that many polys with it's current engine so going with the newer code base makes sense to me. This is just my 2c but I think Chronosculpt should be been included in the LW11.6 price and not an addon. Same with NevronMotion also announced today, they should of tagged that on the LW 11.6 license for any new and existing licenses and... Sell it as a stand alone product for non LW users (Max, Maya...etc). Anyways, love the announcements today, more options always better
  20. Hey bud, No need for a petition, Wacom has released the Win8 wintab driver this week.. Tested on the surface pro with a bunch of apps, photoshop, ZBrush.. so far so good. Head over to the Wacom website and grab the Feel driver, Enhanced Tablet Driver 7.1.1-12
  21. Hi Rouncer, I did the same but with the pro version, happy with my purchase and to support 3DC Now to get started with the tuts...
