  1. I'm not sure how you derived from Andrew's reply that seams would still show up if you created your UVs manually.
  2. I agree. It would seem more logical to have the quadrangulate function in the retopo stage. But I can see Andrew's dilemma of not wanting to convolute the whole process and confuse newbies that just want to quickly quadrangulate their mesh. Perhaps add the Quadrangulate option to the Retopo menu. And in the quadrangulate options panel show a message telling the user that any frozen areas previously marked in Surface mode will receive more polygons. And that any strokes that have been drawn will be used to guide the quadrangulate process. This way a user can hit Cancel and go mark their strokes and dense areas or just hit 'Continue' to quadrangulate their mesh.
  3. I was just giving my opinion of your opinion of the other guys' opinion. It's all just opinions really. But you're right, it always risks turning into an "argument". So no more opinions from me... ..for now
  4. Ah no worries, Andrew. Just wanted to be sure you knew.
  5. I'm sorry if an emoticon of somebody sticking their tongue out offended you. No wait... no I'm not!. I just don't think Andrew needs us telling him how to take care of his business.
  6. The 3D Coat website seems to be going down a lot lately. Not sure if it's an internet issue or a server issue, but thought I better say something just in case Andrew is unaware of it.
  7. Try sending a bug report to Pixologic or Autodesk. Do you think you'll get a fix a week later? Seems some of us may be starting to take Andrew for granted. He owes us nothing. Every update is a gift..
  8. Totally! He's by far the fastest coder on the planet! ..and he deserves a medal for putting up with us lot! We love you, Andrew!!
  9. Along the bottom of the 'Retopo Groups' list panel there are several buttons. One of them lets you select all the polygons in the current group, and another button will copy the selected polygons to the currently selected group. So basically: Select Group 1 Hit the button 'Select all faces of this layer' Select Group 2 Hit the button 'Move selected faces to the current layer'
  10. Quadrangulating a default voxel cube is producing very strange topology on two sides. But thankfully I can override it by using the nice strokes feature!
  11. Andrew, I think because you and Michalis aren't native english speakers there's a slight communication problem. I'm a native English speaker and I struggle to understand Michalis sometimes and so it must be even more difficult for you. Michalis, Perhaps you could get an English speaking friend to help translate your bug reports before sending them to Andrew?.
  12. Just read Daniel's writeup about Siggraph. Well done Don, Greg and Javis for taking such good care of them!!
  13. The chair is a simple model, so sure, retopo it manually. It's the more complex models that the new quadrngulate function will really help. Michalis, you're being a little unreasonable. The old quadrangulate function was awful and yet you never ranted on about how poor it was. The new quadrangulate is much better and yet suddenly you've turned into a crazed demanding perfectionist that just isn't going to be happy unless the new quadrangulate function can produce an absolutely perfect mesh. I think what's really happening is that your frustration with other issues in 3D Coat is making a little crazy and driving you to attack any new features that don't directly address the problems you're having. Having said all that - I suspect there's a history of Michalis being a pain in the ass on the internet forums. Black sheep indeed
  14. It may be that your light brightness is set to 0 in the voxel room. 3D Coat remembers the setting from one session to the next.
  15. "Java plugin is not installed. Click here to download plugin" I guess if a plugin is written in Java then it still needs to ask for permission to download it. The 3D widget's java code must not be embedded in the actual webpage. I've never done any web developing (not even HTMAL) and so I'm totally guessing here
  16. Well that's odd because I just tried to view your web thingy and I was told I had to download a plugin I'm using Google Chrome and Vista.
  17. Better yes, but not faster. Some objects can be so complex that you wouldn't even attempt to retopo them manually because of the amount of time it would take. Believe it or not, but some people make things other than heads.
  18. It's a nice idea!. The interpolation makes it a little more attractive. Never saw that in your original post.
  19. Andrew has considered adding the ability to paint voxels. It is indeed possible. It would work similar to vertex painting. Each voxel would have a RGB value associated with it. And the on screen voxel mesh representation would be vertex painted accordingly. Memory requirements would obviously be higher and it would run slower in certain situations. But this wouldn't be an issue if users are given the option of using non colored voxels, this way the users that don't need colored voxels aren't hindered in any way. Personally I'm not really interested in the idea as I'd much rather texture paint because of the better perfromance (frame rates). Although I can see why some folks would like the idea of voxel painting as it means they're not limited by the constraints of UV mapping and texture resolution. It's why some people like to use ZBrush's poly painting - they feel they can focus on the art and mess around with UV maps later.
