  1. I'm not sure what the smart retopo tool actually is yet , Ive not had a look. But generally in retopo you can lift the polys off the surface, I think there is a snap to button to check/uncheck. I frequently do this. I construct things in retopo, usually capes and sleeves then bring them in the sculpt area via the Cloth tool and do a simple simulation .You can get some nice folds and hangs.
  2. It can help if you show the whole screen, so we can see your settings, it makes troubleshooting easier.
  3. Ha ha, You made me feel bad now... I didnt expect feedback on my feedback. Just my personal preferences really . I always feel like "speed" sculpts are just showboating I personally find them neither entertaining or educational. Each to his own... I occasionally get actual jobs and I can sit here for 10 hours straight with just the sound of a ticking clock for company. I sure some people will do it with Metallica blasting away all day. I didnt now you had music thrust upon you when using youtube. What do you lot out there in forum world have as "backgound ambient" ( Grant Abbitt and Ryan King on YouTube are a couple of people I look at. They are Blenderists that teach you stuff.)
  4. Why do they always put awful "music" on these things. And speed them up so you dont learn anything from them. Looked like a nice sculpt but I bailed early.
  5. Hi, I am in the middle of job, so a couple of betas behind I think. I switched them off anyways because sculpt layers always messes me up, because I paint and sculpt on vertex. I always end up inadvertently sculpting on umpteen different layers. Though at one point they switched themselves back on even though I was working on a brand new no sculpt layers scene. Hope they can be switched off in 2021, or I dont think I will upgrade.
  6. Thanks for the info. Maybe that ominous countdown on opening 3dcoat needs cancelling .
  7. Hi, I get a warning when I start 3dcoat saying the Beta Tools will switch off soon. ( 2 days I think it said today) Does this mean 2021 will be released at this point? I hate the sculpt layers but have inadvertently got them in a scene ( combined with paint) when I switch the sculpt layer beta off, it just switches it on again because of the sculpt layer I have. Just wondering what will happen when I open the scene when it has been disabled permanently? Im currently doing a scene with all betas switched off just in case. ta
  8. You can adjust the sharpness of the seam in the settings next to cubic to make it less blurry, but obviously the seam will still be there. And you can slightly adjust where the seams are. ( think thats a job for zbrush maybe at the moment.) Make a feature of it and put some stitches along the seam. Im looking at this problem right now, but not decided what to do.
  9. Put a request in, wherever you do that, they could sneak it in Version 2021...cant be that hard....says the the feller who litrally knows zero about programming...
  10. Dont think you can lock the viewport window. The way I use image planes is to select front/side/back whatever, then go to Orthographic. Or maybe make a camera so you can return to the exact view you had.
  11. There is a thing called " objectify" , right click your object, about halfway down the menu. Might be the thing you want.
  12. Does it not work with the default cloth. Maybe only 3 polygons is not enough for anything to bend. Try subdividing it a few times.
  13. mmm, thats a mystery it not showing up in paint. Just as an exercise just make sphere and try painting that, then slowly increas the polys and see how far you get! Its best to use a pbr shader as the matcap doesnt show the true colours. And make your model surface not voxels. Yes I think zbrush is clunky with big objects . Its as jerky as heck when I use it . And I think you have to jump thru hoops to get a nice render. 3dcoat stay smooth until its gone way beyond my needs I think it is because zbrush uses the main computer chip to do the donkey work, where as 3dcoat use the graphic card a bit like a game would. So the more video ram the better. One more thing I have just spotted on your images which might have an influence.. I see you have the paint bucket tool selected.... If you look near the top of the image you will see the opacity is set to 93% when it should be 100%! Now I think this is a massive bug because I get this all the time, it seems to default to 93 for whatever reason. Mighty anoying and I have mentioned it before but its still there.
  14. I dont know about downsides ,when you export your model wherever, I think all the layers get merged anyway.Maybe try merging those two layers now and see what happens. Everything is dependant on what the model is to be ultimately used for as an end product. Is it for a game character? Or is it just for a still image picture? Vertex painting is what I do 95 percent of the time. No baking involved, thats the beauty of it. It has a few downsides but for me there are more upsides that cancel them out. All that it is you do ...sculpt your model go the paint room and paint it....your done! No messing around with UVs or unwrapping. Its just that your model will be millions of polygons and may be unwieldy for your destination. As each vertex of your model can be coloured the more polys you have the neater your paint looks. If you are just starting to do this stuff its an easier "in" than all that uv mularky. Seeing quick results will be more inspiring, then you can slowly build up your knowledge about the other stuff. Take a look at my Artstation page ( signature below) thats 95 percent vertex paint rendered in Blender. I can get about 20million polys into Blender, but seldom go above 10.
  15. On your paint layer its on "Modulate x2" maybe try "Standard Blend"
  16. This is all too complicated isnt it? I think Ive had this as well. A simple fix for now if you want to paint the head all the same colour is to select the ear layer then paint the head ,because I think that bit of head is actually part of the ear layer. Then maybe merge the layers together. Or check the UVs and move them if you have more than one set. You can select UVs and put them on another . Sorry Im even confusing myself now. On a personal level I try and avoid all these shannanigans by just vertex painting. Other than that Ive got nothing else to offer Im afraid.
  17. Hi there , this is not a direct answer..and might not suit your needs. The way I sort of do stuff like this is go to the retopo room ( are they called rooms? Im never sure) retopo your sculpt to suit. Go back to sculpt, them import object , a windows box will open for you to select an object, cancel this and then you should be left with the 3dcoat dialog box open , at the foot of the dialogue there is a "pick from retopo" click that and it will pull you retopo mesh into the sculpt room. ( I think if your retopo has no holes in it it may be solid ,but not sure) Worth a look though. And of course you can bring your mesh with the cloth tool and use dynamics to sculpt your cloth. A bit fiddly . but good for capes and droopy sleeves. ( I used it for my "Fu Manchewy" pics ..click my signature for Artstation)
  18. Off the top of my head I would say your model resolution is too low if you are vertex painting it, if you are using maps I would say thay are not big enough either.
  19. Tapper.. Just right click on that "grey ball" image you want in the first post , then "save image as" then you have it "downloaded" ( im assuming thats what you wanted)
  20. Yeah.. blame it on the kids, thats what I do....and I havent even got any. In the past I sometimes have had things leaning against my 3dconnection. Then I wonder why my viewport is slowly moving on its own. A friend of mines wacom tablet was misbehavin' , it turned out to be biscuit crumbs stuck down the crack in the function keys. Its always a relief when its an easy fix.
  21. Hi chaps, here is a good ref resource for all your nerdly needs. Just download the pdf catologue. https://ukm.propstoreauction.com/m/view-auctions/info/id/244
  22. I just ordered a xp-pen deco. it will be interesting to try something modern after about 20 years with tiny Wacoms. Ive never tried anything else...ever. Maybe tomorrow I will try a peanut butter and jam sandwich....
  23. I think after 4 years he has probably made his choice...hee hee. By the why I am still using the same Bamboo as I was in my last post on this thread... 4 years ago. ( I did have to swap the nib....for the first time ever...) Maybe I should upgrade. I think I will do a quick reco mission on the interwebs.
