V4 Stable version
Vipera replied to Andrew Shpagin's topic in New Releases, Bugs Reports & Development Discussion
There is version 4.0.04B available from program/update but forum first page does not say anything about it. 3D-Coat 4.0.04B 2013-06-14 06:54:21 - fixed problem with floating license that appeared in 4.0.04A - transparency rendering improved in render room (for realtime rendering and after pressing Render) - seamlessness of ppp painting improved on seams on sharp edges (close to 90 degrees and more). -
The hissing sound in electronic devices usually happens with transistors or their radiators after few years of using that device. When they work in idle mode they are silent but when you start to load them with high power they start to produce noise. I had such problem with my old CRT monitor few years ago. And that was common issue with early CRT TV sets.

I have a proposal for UI change in voxels room. Honestly I do not like the tools list drag navigation. I would like to change tools list on the left panel in Voxels room. We need only 5 buttons on the top of tools list for each group of tools - Voxels, Adjust, Objects, Surface, Commands. When we press one of these buttons then we see appropriate list of the tools for this group. This navigation will be more easy for navigation because all tools will always stay on their positions what helps to find them quickly instead of current drop-down lists when we have to drag it back and forth constantly. Please give your thoughts in Mantis thread if you agree or disagree. http://3d-coat.com/m...iew.php?id=1012 There is a picture attached with the example how I want to see the new tools list. Instead of buttons with V,A,O,S,C letters we can have the buttons with pictures which represent Voxels, Adjust, Objects, Surface, Commands.

The help says: "Transform/copy tool. Drag the frame and select an area to be transferred. The frame acquired can be dragged, or rotated. Use SHIFT to preserve proportions. Use CTRL to drag vertices independently of each other. Press ESC to cancel the transformation and enter to apply it." http://3d-coat.com/w...3.6_Paint_Tools

The programmer can experiment with different UI but professionals who constantly work with top notch software from Adobe and Autodesk will prefer software with similar UI. By this reason I don't like ZBrush with its not standard interface and chose Mudbox and 3d-coat. In current state 3d-coat also looks like a programmer's toy with absolutely disorganized menus but I still use it because of some cool features. Regarding sliders I can say that this is a good control and visual informative feature. If you need to use values beyond the range limit you can still enter it as numeric value. For example, here is a slider in Adobe After Effects. You can see that default range is 0 - 50 but if I RMB click on numeric value and select Edit Value then I have a window where I can adjust range to 0 - 30000. In this case if I open project I can always see the value range and current value.

This design is good to navigate but it does not provide information for value range, for example blending: Depth modulator 0 - 1 Color opacity 0 - 1 Emboss power 0 - 5 Contrast 0 - 1 Brightness 0 - 255 Specular modulator 0 - 2 Specular brightness 0 - 255 Do I have to remember all of these limits? When I see number 0.5 what do I have to think about this value? Is 0.5 big or small? I need to know limits to answer. And when I work with 8k texture I can't move value back and forth to check its limit. This operation takes a lot of time with hirez textures. PS: Carlosa was faster... :-)

This issue seems similar to what I have in Paint Room with navigation sometimes. I also loose pen pressure sensitivity after mask or material enabled and cannot slide the model using pen. I have to switch to another application and switch back to 3DC to restore control. I have reported this issue last week: http://3d-coat.com/mantis/view.php?id=933

BeatKitano, this is a good idea about tutorial. I would like to know how to fix models too. For example, I have created a model of a head in Voxel room. I have made a retopology. I made UVs. I painted this model in Paint room. Now client wants to modify the model, change ears, make nose bigger, etc. So, how can I fix it easily? Now I think that I have to go back to voxel room, make changes, make retopology again, unwrap UV sets, paint again. This sounds as a nightmare for me. Is there more easy way to fix it? Could someone who knows answer send me a PM, please? I'm sorry for offtopic.

When I create primitives in Voxels room the adjustment axis lines for the new primitives are hiding behind existing voxels. If I switch existing voxels to the ghost mode to make them transparent then I cannot move effectors of the new primitive which are located inside the existing voxels. For example, you have a sphere and you create another smaller primitive sphere inside existing. Try to move the new sphere inside existing one. Mantis report http://3d-coat.com/m...view.php?id=703
