  3. The surface mode for creating seamless textures works, but is lacking allot (it seems to me). please say if you know a work around or method to the problem below # If i wanted to make a pebbles and dirt floor texture, i need to paint the pebbles and the dirt, is it possible to have multiple volumes work with the tiling system so I can paint or apply shaders to the dirt and pebbles separately?

  7. To all 3DC'ers! I am new to 3DC and I have been trying to solve an issue with sculpting and texturing a model that I would like your help with. I have a .OBJ file of a sculpture that has been captured by a 3D Scanner and has a UV map/texture. The problem is that, the model has some defects, both texture and geometry that require correction. I have managed to correct the geometry defects and I have also managed to correct the textures and export the model out of 3DC. I can do these operations INDIVIDUALLY but I cannot seem to bake the new texture on the modified (Voxelised) geometry. Could you please help correct my noob mistake or if this is a known issue/limitation then please feel free to put my mind at ease. My workflow (based on tutorials and searching the forums): 1: File > Import > import for voxelising (select the .OBJ) 2: Make modifications to geometry using clay tools and live clay etc. 3: To the Retopo room 4: Retopo menu > import - select the same file as original import to get Retopo mesh - (no UV edits as the texture already has UV mapped textures) 5: Retopo Menu > Merge NM 6: To Paint Room 7: Import Texture > import normal map 8: Back to Retopo 9: Bake scan settings and Bake 10: Back to paint Room for export and the model shows the Voxel sculpted edits and the texture (albeit with wierd layers - most of the time the texture is a bronze colour!) Please help!!! Endless hours trying to solve this and I am stuck. I appreciate your comments and help, thanks in advance. Ash
  8. A couple of questions: Can I perform mapping like cylindrical and spherical mapping somehow in 3DCoat? Sometimes I want to paint something like a label on a bottle and using projection paint manually can give uneven results. I know it's possible to snap the orthographic view to 90 degree angles when projection painting, but is there a way to snap at smaller angles. Imagine painting the tread texture on a tire and you need to rotate the tire at something like 20 degree angle with each new projection. The arrows keys would be ideal for this but the only way I can seem to rotate my model is with using manual controls which isnt very accurate. Any other projection painting tips I should know about? Thanks
  9. Hi all, not sure if any of you are interested but I have uploaded a 60 minute speed-sketch to Vimeo and it'll be the first of many. There's some basic two-point perspective going on and I plan to cover other processes and techniques over the coming months. Anyhow, here's the link: Ruins For a little more information you can also visit the RetroFist.com website. Hope you like it!
  10. Does anyone know if there is a way to adjust how More in cavity and less in cavity work when painting a normal mapped model, If not this would certainly be an improvement for 3d coat, its very handy for making things look worn and eroded but depending on your model you may want to adjust the allowance between what is classed as a cavity thanks.
  11. Hi I've imported an object with UVs and about 10 sub-objects. I've taken it into the paint room, which works great, and is very fast and responsive. I was wondering if there's a way to access the "surface" tools? The paint room tools are a little wanting. I really miss crease edges, and the scrape/flatten tool works in a much more interesting way. By the way I reported a bug that I might as well mention here. It seems like the flatten tool works very differently on different areas of my model. The UV's a pretty even. It seems related to the colours of the normal map. Red and blue directions paint fine, but green directions result in massive depth when painting flatten. Very strange Also, for some reason my object was imported off center, so there's no symmetry which is a bit of a problem (I imported it as an .lwo). thanks Olly
  12. Okay...first newbie question. ;-) I've been trying to paint an image onto a mesh but have not been able to get the same result as in the tutorial. In the tutorial the image itself is what is painted on the mesh. Each time I try this, the color palette is forcing itself and I get the bumped information of the image (which is okay) and the color within the brush palette (which I don't want). I've tried to disable the color palette, among other things, but does not work for me. Example. I model a rock. I have an image of the texture I want to paint on the rock as a custom pattern. What setting am I missing? Also, when I'm painting on the mesh, I can't seem to get the mesh to translate without affecting the image texture. This affects my control over the pattern. If I rotate my mesh the image is also moving. I want them to translate independently. Thanks

  15. The image shows the 3 stabs (two goofs) at creating UVs. The two labeled camel-default are junk they interfere with using the one labeled camel that I wish to use by causing unsightly artifacts in unpredictable ways. Is there a way to delete the junk? I would like away to write over previous and faulty UVs but I know of no way of doing so . Presumably being on jury duty has caused my brain to repeatedly misfire.
  16. After using Materials successfully in this project, I now have the problem of the material being greyed out when selected. It appears faded in the Materials tab and nothing is visible in the Paint room except a faded scene with no material to be found. C:\Users\Tony\Desktop\Greyed_out_material.png
  17. Can anyone share some light on this issue? As shown, there is no explanation in the wireframe and it can't be painted out. The only way to hide it is to hide the occlusion layer which has it's own penalties. This spot is not very symmetrical with the other side as I apparently made an adjustment with the move tool while symmetry was turned off so that a symmetrical retopo was buried with z-bias turned up to ten. I guess what I need are suggestions on how best to correct it in the voxel/surface room .
  18. I'm puzzled as to why the maps (diffuse, normal and displacement) exported for this model are completely black: The Upper version was unpaintable to the extent that I sent it to Andrew. Painting would fail on some parts and daub other parts untouched by the brush. 3.5.11 is the version. Also, the teeth were painted with white. Their pinkish color is another puzzle.
