  1. Hi, I am new to 3d Coat and ran into an issue with baking my sculpt into the paint room. I started work by making a Basemesh (humanoid character) with UV maps in 3DS Max and imported it via the Paint UV Mapped Mesh (Per Pixel) Option. After that, I sculpted with the Auto-Subdivde in the Brush Parameters. I then started the baking process (I imported the mesh from the paint room) with Normal Maps + Flat Displacement so I could paint in 3d Coat, but every time I'm done with the outer/inner scan Depth my Mesh loses stuff and gets These weird glitches. Am i doing something wrong in the Workflow, or is my scanning not good enough for the baking process? I try to capture all the Details, but i find it impossible to capture the inside scan Depth of fingertips because it always overshoots a bit. Is there a Solution to this, or even a different way to get my sculpted Details into the paint room while keeping my UVs? I would like to show Screenshots but the Insert image from URL is not working for me.

    The Tommyknocker Man

Inspired by the 1993 Mini-Series "The Tommyknockers" and the Stephen King book of the same name. 3D Coat was used for painting displacement and textures. Blender was used for everything else.

    It came from below

Hi 3DCoaters! I totally missed it to post this image here although a huge part of the creation process was done in 3DCoat! You can find a small making of at Blendernation: Behind the scenes: It came from below Hope you like it!
  4. Hello, im building a character in cinema 4d which i will be rigged in the same program. I recently bought 3Dcoat which i want to unwrap and sculpt the character, but the base shape will be build in cinema4D. Im not sure of what the best workflow would be. Is this a good way to work; Model "low poly" with subD in cinema4D and rig that. Then sculpt and export displacement map or normal map for the details? Thanks!
  5. Hello All! For those of you already on Pluralsight/Digital Tutors or those of you who might want to be, I recently had a 4 1/2 hour course covering some techniques in Character Sculpting published. If you want, please take a look at the course overview below: 3d-coat-character-concept-sculpting-techniques One thing that is different about it is that it covers a way of taking the voxel/surface sculpt directly to Cura to 3D print. In my case it is a Lulzbot TAZ 5 3d printer, but the techniques could apply to other printers as well. Excelsior! Eric Kunzendorf
  6. hello everyone, 4 months ago, i was asking you about more smart material for 3d coat for my Sci-fi exam in video and today i can show you my final work. All the texture has been made with the smart material in this topic (and the basic smart material of cours). This screenshot come for unreal egine 4.9. I should like to have your opinion on it (positif or negatif about texturing, props, lighthing, etc) English is not my mother tongue so, sorry for the mistakes And this is a like for my SF character https://skfb.ly/OHZO

    Number 28

Hi, there. I'm a little late to the party. Will post my progress here. After a lot of references , I decided to create some context to the piece. It's a racing, maybe inspired by wacky races or something like that. This is the first pass on the car: The design is not final though but pretty close.

    Nightwing (Hand Painted)

Here is an old gameartisans entry that I never finished. I decided to go the hand painted route. Its still a early WIP. On a side note, whenever I run 3DCoat on my laptop, the computer gets really hot and the fan is working hard. I am afraid I'm going to burn something up. Is there anything I can do to solve this or ease it? My specs are: Windows 10 64Bit Processor: AMD A4-4300M APU with Radeon HD Graphics 2.50GHz RAM: 4.00GB (3.46GB useable) Thanks.

    Steampunk-esque Character

Hello! I just began using 3D Coat and felt it could be a good idea to post some of my wips on the forums. I am accustomed to Zbrush ways of doing things with multiple subdivision levels and etc, but I recently bought 3D coat because the pricing was just too good to miss for what you get. Hopefully with this thread I can get more comfortable with a workflow that suits 3D Coats strengths. This is the character I am working on currently for a game concept I have created. It is probably not going to end up in the actual game, but I found it to be a good way to learn and practice with 3D Coat. Overall there are a few things I am uncertain about, for example. What is the deal with not being able to remove paint layer 0 in painting, and are there ways to reset it to default other than just exporting the sculpt and then reimport it into a new project? Also, what kind of workflow is common when sculpting in 3D Coat start to finish? I sort of miss being able to step down in subdivisions to do large structural changes without destroying details I have done on the higher subdivisions. I also stream most of my sculpting/3d related sessions on Sywork, so please do take a peek if you are feeling bored or just want to laugh at how horrible I am! https://sywork.tv/channel/name/morgannilsson Happy sculpting! Best regards //Morgan

Hello. I discovered 3d-Coat 16 days ago. I tried several software when doing retopology character. But when I started to do retopology in 3d-Coat I thought that this is where the developers really been working hard. Retopologiyu in 3d-Coat is a true delight. Now I am studying other features of 3d-Coat. I must say that the learning process is incredibly easy. This is my character for which I did retopology in 3d-Coat. I want to make my mesh as accurately as possible describes the shape of the body, with a minimum number of polygons. 10014 points of base mesh. WIP
  13. Hey Everyone, I've been slogging away for the last four weeks making a character for the monthly character challenge over at Polycount. I sculpted her body and clothing in 3D-Coat but only just realised today that I haven't posted anything here. So, mega dump First up I did a model sheet in Inkscape based on the provided reference (the one on the left): Then I sculpted her body using this (took about 5 hrs):

    Lucas' Sketchbook

Hi guys! It's been few months since I bought my license of 3D Coat on steam, and I spent these just messing around, reading articles and watching some videos. But now I started to do some tests myself and I'll be posting here. I'm currently studying at CGMA Character Arts Program (I dream to one day land a job in the field) and they don't use 3D Coat there, but I"m trying to replicate what I can in 3D Coat too (is good because I do more stuff and at the same time I adapt my workflows since I bought 3D Coat to use for my commercial work). I don't have time to do that always but I'll try my best. In any case I also do some personal studies in the software too. I must say that when I tested the previous version (it was the version 3.7 I guess, I don't remember exactly) it felt almost like a nightmare to sculpt in; however, this new version is AMAZING. I want to always scupt more stuff sometimes just because of the software xD Ok, so let's get started: I did this head after buying Grassetti's Gumroad Videos (pure awesomeness). I didn't started the anatomy classes in the program but knowledge is never too much, so I'm doodling and studying whenever I can. And I also did some fullbody characters (2 to be exactly). They were assignments of a current workshop of the program, however I had to use other software to do them. However, I noticed that I have huge problems in finding the leg sillhouette, so I started "investigating" this particular weakness and did these: This first one was a "blocky" kind of leg, based on references of George Bridgman drawings. And this one was made using several photos for reference: I'll be posting more stuff soon (I hope). I'll be really grateful for any tips and critiques on my work, they will surely help me in my journey. THanks!

Hi, I've been using 3D Coat for some time now and I am going to be using it on a bunch of upcoming projects so I figured I'd share my creations here with you guys as I go along. First off I'm working on a kind of generic soldier model, see below - comments & crits welcomed!!

    Marvel's Rhino

Just a starter project as a new user of 3d coat. A fantastic tool. Can't wait for a stable V4.
  18. I need the practice and critique so as the topic states, this is my contest wip thread. A little back story to help character development: He is an archer for hire to protect farmers and herders and their familys, crops and animals from creatures that roam about. Fur coverings and dark clothing help camouflage him and keep him warm at night. He has an array of arrow types, one of which is wrapped in fur and dipped in a bioluminescent mixture, that when it hits a target it sprays the mixture on the animal making it more visible and easier to hunt at night. The character base was created with the curves tool. I did a quick paint-over in 3DC to try to get some ideas for clothing and gear. Current progress: Trying out some clothing created in Marvelous Designer. Probably use it as a base for sculpting additional detail. Fur progress: I hope to continue making progress on this but I (my wife) am expecting kid #2 any week (or day) which could put this on hold. Thanks for reading! Side note: For those with an iPad (and soon Android, Mac and PC), the l'Ecorche Classical Anatomy for Artists app might be of interest. imho it's nice to have on a tablet so it doesn't take up screen space and you can just use your fingers to navigate.

Hello everybody, I'm a long time owner of an 3D Coat licence, but not a long time user of this program. I bought it because of it's voxel tool, but after using it for a few days, I wasn't really satisfied with it. I'm a long time ZBrush and Sculptris user too, therefore I was thinking about to sell my 3D Coat licence again since a longer time. But I wasn't here in the forum for an very long time, therefore I didn't know how much 3D Coat has changed since I bought it. I now have downloaded the newest beta version and I have to say, that it has changed tremendously. The brushes seems to be so much smoother and these Liveclay tools are looking great at the first look. And there are so many more tools I didn't know, yet :-) Therefore I have decided, to take another look at 3D Coat. I will challenged myself the next days, to learn all the new functionality. I will post my results here in this thread and if you want, you will be able to download all the models I do during the next days, to take a closer look at them. Sorry for my bad English, but I'm not a native speaker :-( Here is my first test I call her Kim and she is a little cartoon girl. You can download her from here: http://www.sharecg.com/pf/Skias_Onar

    Male & Female Voxel Chars

Two characters I've created a while back. Probably the most detailed models I've made with 3D-Coat so far. Now that I have a new, more powerful PC I hope to finish them.
