Wanted: Game character creation tutorials for 3dcoat.

Title says it all. Numerous tutorials for zbrush. How about 3dc?

Something like these quality

Commercial ofcourse.

carlosa are you willing to make one?

No specific requirements. Just project based that would produce something like that from voxels to retopo to painting.

LJB had some really great tuts on kurv studio but don't see anything new. And he only got up to voxel to retopo. No texturing or displacement, normal map creation.

I was in the works of doing something like this (and other short vids). Though when the 3DC UI revisions were coming to fruition I thought it wise to wait for Andrew to finish that, otherwise the material would probably be entirely useless. I'm glad I stopped when I did, lost a bit of work but not as much as I would have, because a lot of stuff has changed and is continuing to change with the nearing final version of 4.0.

That said, as soon as version 4 is finished up, barring contract work, I plan restart what I was working on with the new UI & tools.

Looking forward to it Javis. I did buy your first dvd with the armored guy but too bad there wasn't any sequel to it which dealt with retopo, texturing.

Same for LJB's tutorials after kurv went mia there aren't that many 3dc commercial tuts for advance users.

So I think 3dcoat needs a complete tutorial for the workflow to create a finished product.

I really wanted to make one but every screen capture software I tried make 3DCoat work halfspeed

and its not very comfortable to work that way,my computer is 6 years old and wasn't even crazy at the time. :(

artman - if you sell your tutorials on your own without any middle man taking half percent you can upgrade your pc in no time.

Have you tried Debut screencap? Its pretty light.

Yes,I tried it.Its one of the best Ive tried but it still takes 1/4 of brushing speed....which is not that bad.I can always edit video to be little faster.

Ok.Once V4 is out I will try to make one that covers all the techniques I use....but I highly doubt there is money to be made here lol.

I would do it just to show off how its possible to do gnomon quality stuff using only 3DC...Im tired to hear that 3DCoat 's sculpting "feeling" is not good enough.

Thanks artman! Please consider it really even if there's little money in it. A little money is better than no money right? :D

The images I posted I'm 100% sure can be done in 3dcoat. Only the last pic could be tough to sculpt and retopo. I've not done anything that detailed in voxel and always relied on polygon modelling then painting. Always wondered why people want to make detailed sculpture in voxel and how they bring all those details to practical use into polygons.

I watched some of them before. Very grateful for the people who made them for free. But we need higher quality so that 3dcoat can have better materials for people who have yet to learn the best it can offer.

As much as I like 3dcoat, its getting hard to get people into it without good training materials on par to the output quality of zbrush training that has tons of high quality training.

The companies now almost all require zbrush as a prereq for employment like how it is with maya, max. Its alarming how every job post I see have zbrush listed and no mudbox, 3dcoat.

A high quality training from creating a base character>sculpting details>retopo>texturing>baking>final would be great.

I'm on it :)

 

I teach a night class in 3d character modelling and animation at a local uni, and I've just finished massively rewriting my entire workflow to be based on 3D-Coat.  It now covers the following topics:

 

- Character model sheets in illustrator

- Sculpting, retopo, baking and painting in 3D-Coat

- Procedural skin texturing in 3ds max

- Photo based texturing for faces in photoshop

- Hair texturing and modelling photoshop and 3ds Max

- Clothing modelling and texturing in 3ds Max and 3D-Coat

- Rigging and animating in 3ds max

- Exporting and implementing playable characters in Unity 3D and Unreal Engine 4

 

The tutorials are currently mostly in word documents (which actually works surprisingly well), but I want to record video tutorial versions of them before releasing them.  I'd also like to document open source options for people who don't have adobe or autodesk software.

 

Timewise, I'm starting a new job next week which should let me have all my out of hours time back for my own projects again (yay) so hopefully I can start rolling stuff out in the next couple of weeks.

FWIW, I did do a follow-up video for retopology. ;) I even used messiah and Modo for some of the stuff in the video.

 

 

One of the problems with creating a complete product video, is it becomes obsolete very quickly, due to Andrew's quick changes to 3DC. It would be good if there were public only stable builds, and private beta builds, that way the tutorials would be consistent on the public facing side.

Still trying to figure out if I should just go with them or if I want to get all motivated and do them all as videos (which would be a mountain of work).

You should go with what you have! :D  WHy?  Because we would love to see it now!  hahahaha.  

 

I am really looking to a tutorial that is very guided in the sculpting process.
