Member Siml Posted January 15, 2013 Member Report Share Posted January 15, 2013 Hey guy, my first post in this forum, yeah ;D At the moment i´m working on an human-spider-hybrid for an game called "Myrdragor" (srry for this quick promotion ) Here are the very rough sketches : And im not very bound to this design, that means, that i change many things on the fly Here is what i got after 1 hour of sketching It´s still very rough, but i want to make sure, that the form ist correct before i dive into the details Please let me know what you like and what not (sure it´s still in it´s beginnings, but i will keep you up-to-date with it´s progress)

Contributor Tony Nemo Posted January 15, 2013 Contributor Report Share Posted January 15, 2013 Arachnids have 8 legs but maybe the 'arms' could serve for the final two. Very creepy, especially the head! Will it be furry like a tarantula?
Member Siml Posted January 15, 2013 Author Member Report Share Posted January 15, 2013 It´s supposed to be creepy And yeah normal they have 8 legs, but in my opinion 6 legs look better in games than 8 ( and it´s also easier to animate ) And like you said; the arms could serve for the missing two xD My wish is to make it furry like a tarantula, but i have only 4 gb of ram and my computer is starting to REALY slow down. So i think it´s the best to retopo it and then paint a fur-normal-map on it. (and some additional alpha-mapped fur-planes)
Member Siml Posted January 16, 2013 Author Member Report Share Posted January 16, 2013 Just a small change for today (was very busy ) I decided to replace the "arms" with normal ones I´m also over creating spider-like looking hands. Maybe some creepy ones like the legs And also a very small color test on the body ( was just a very quick and rough retopo, just to test some retop tools, because i´m actually an completly 3d-coat neewbie ;D ) Hopefully i have enough time tomorrow to bring some "awesomeness" into it So stay tuned Edit: Srry for the double post again But now i have found the "edit" button, so it won´t happen again
Member Siml Posted January 23, 2013 Author Member Report Share Posted January 23, 2013 So i finally finished the retopo-mesh ;D *happy* It was kind a hard work to get used to 3D-coats great retopo-tools (i was used to do this in blender ) And here it is Now it goes to the painting part (which will be the funniest part i hope )
Contributor Tony Nemo Posted January 23, 2013 Contributor Report Share Posted January 23, 2013 I'm surprised at the absence of a layer above layer 0. I don't think it advisable to paint on layer 0. The model looks great!
Carlosan
Displacement is exported using the difference of a vertex's position and its position on Layer 0. Vertice positions will be taken from Layer 0. This is the preferred option for low-poly export. Dont use it for paint, 3DC use it. ----- Will be better by default to make it locked, or name it Mesh layer... let me make a feature request http://3d-coat.com/mantis/view.php?id=
Contributor Tony Nemo Posted January 24, 2013 Contributor Report Share Posted January 24, 2013 So what about painting on layer 0?
Member Siml Posted January 25, 2013 Author Member Report Share Posted January 25, 2013 Ahh good to know The problem now is, that i can´t duplicate layer 0 (to create a copy of my color-layer and to clean layer 0 ) But I´m not in microvertex painting, so it doesn´t displace the vertices and therefore i could paint on layer 0 ? I tried to export my diffuse and there was no problem, so it shouldn´t be that bad ;D
