Member Marcus Posted February 14, 2013 Member Share Posted February 14, 2013 Ok first of all, I am not working with voxels. Just to make that clear. I am importing a reference mesh from somewhere else to retopologize. What I would like to know is if it is possible to place a texture onto the reference mesh. I made a topology map in modo using the painting tools but I hate the retopo tools in modo -.- SO what I'd like to do is like I said earlier, place the texture onto the reference mesh so I could fallow the retopo map. So is this possible in 3d coat and if so, please provide a step by step guide for doing it. I am a newbie only knowing how to use 3d coat as a retopology tool. Thank you. Moderator Daniel Posted February 14, 2013 Moderator Share Posted February 14, 2013 what is "topology map" and "retopo map"? you can't put any textures in Retopo room, only in Paint room. But maybe I got you wrong. Can you explain what do you need again with some informative screenshots! Thanks
Carlosan
Paint room File Import Model for per pixel painting Import the obj add a new layer -dont use layer0, 3dc use it to bake displacements- so over layer1... Texture Import Diffuse map Go to Retopo room you can see the model with texture like reference mesh ready to be retopologized

Advanced Member Zeddicus Posted February 15, 2013 Advanced Member Share Posted February 15, 2013 you can't put any textures in Retopo room, only in Paint room. In addition to the fantastic reply by carlosa, just thought I'd mention that there actually is a way to apply a texture to the retopo mesh while in the retopo room. You just have to select one of the UV tools to make it appear. I use it to override the awful colors 3D Coat likes to choose.

Nice tip. Hadn't thought about that.
