Member Fantome Posted July 14, 2013 Member Share Posted July 14, 2013 Hi, I'm starting a small new project, a great white shark. I'll be modeling and texturing it in 3d coat. Once the model is done I'll try to make a nice underwater scene and render it in mental ray.
Advanced Member Garagarape Posted July 14, 2013 Advanced Member Share Posted July 14, 2013 Nice start with your shark. I recognized the specie immediately. By the way, did you see this: http://cdn.bleedingcool.net/wp-content/uploads//2012/11/sharknado.jpg Quite funny IMO. Can't wait to see your progression with the shark. Member Fantome Posted July 15, 2013 Author Member Share Posted July 15, 2013 I've added the fins started to put in more details. I think next will be refining the skin, adding teeths and starting on the textures.
Advanced Member Pix Jigsaw Posted July 16, 2013 Advanced Member Share Posted July 16, 2013 Those fins look great!. This one is really progressing well. The 3D seas will not be safe for swimmers when this guy is finished.
Advanced Member Garagarape Posted July 16, 2013 Advanced Member Share Posted July 16, 2013 Nice progress! Are you still in voxel mode or LC? What's your polycount?

Contributor Tony Nemo Posted July 19, 2013 Contributor Share Posted July 19, 2013 And a whole body view.
Member Fantome Posted July 19, 2013 Author Member Share Posted July 19, 2013 Sorry for the late reply, got busy with work. The model is in voxels, it was around 10 millions but I downgraded to 2 mil now, it looks more or less the same. I don't plan on modeling the entire body, but doing a close up shot like in my last render.
Member Fantome Posted July 28, 2013 Author Member Share Posted July 28, 2013 (edited) I've finally got time to work on this. There is still a lot more to do with the textures and the lighting/render but it's getting there. Edited July 28, 2013 by Fantome
Member Fantome Posted August 4, 2013 Author Member Share Posted August 4, 2013 I think I'm pretty much done with this! Any ideas on how to improve it would be welcome.
Reputable Contributor digman Posted August 4, 2013 Reputable Contributor Share Posted August 4, 2013 The eyes are a little dead looking, The skin appears too dry to me since he just came out of the water. Some water sheen maybe. I think a little atmosphere haze for the background would help. This is very fine workmanship all around...
Contributor Tony Nemo Posted August 4, 2013 Contributor Share Posted August 4, 2013 Yeah, boosting the reflection would do it with some added specularity on the eye. But an obvious maneater never-the-less.
