Hi Monkeybrain, if I may as a Roller In Line Hockey player, here are some improvement you could do,

1/ The blade of the skate should be shorter and with a banana shape

2/ The plastic part that is holding the blade, has often a blending form at the edges with the blade, that make a more fluid line of the skate

3/ The leg protection ( sorry doesn't know he English word for that) should have 2 parts, the first one, the one you have sculpt in plastic, and a second one, large that continu from the side of the protection and surround the leg.

4/ The pants should be very large and thick.

Take a look at some skates here : www.hockeymonkey.com

Anyway, great sculpting, hope will have this skill one day.

looks good ;)

what's the bettest voxel-resolution for adding fine details (super fine details in LIVECLAY - CLAY, thats ok) ? If I set 4x voxel-density in my scene it rises up very fast to many millions of polygons especially by larger bodyparts.

Thanks.

First of all, that depends of the size of your object.

You could reach more details on a tiny object with 100.000 Voxel as on a big object with 10.000.000 Voxels.

The glasses have a resolution of 32. That are 3.3 Million Polys.

The helmet have a resolution of 8. That are 2.5 Million Polys.

You see, i have a 4 times higher resolution on the glasses, but not a 4 time higher resolution.

That is always much trial and error to find what is enough. But you could play around with the subdividing.

You dont have to go from 4 to 8. Maybe from 4 to 5 or 4 to 6 is enough too.

That helps alot to keep the voxelamount low.

At this point i am on 21 Million polys and my 8 GB Ram are nearly on the limit.

I have to reduce some objects.

hey fine to see this snowman :)

thank for you answer Mr. Malo

I see also, its very important to made more layers and work with multiresolution ...

Its also a little bit sad, that LiveClay did increase the Polygon amount too  - I was shocked, how fast it rises up :P ... nice tool, but I know its better to made all your needs with SURFACE and after this with LIVE CLAY, is this right?

Oh, it did not need much increasing if you start with voxels first.

As is see all of the presets from artman are way to high. They are only good if you start in Surface Mode.

I turn it always down to 2 or 1,5 that is mostly enough.

I prefer Voxel over Surface. and after that i use Live Clay.

Others prefer pure Surface and dont use Voxel. That is up to you, with what you could work better.

But in fact, you are right

@Malo:

Thanks, Its a nice way to improve look of the model, but im not completely satisfied with the handling of the spline-curves.

Dont know if there is a way to avoid the bending/distortion of the spline elements. I havent found a solution yet.

If anyone knows how to get the spline element accurate and straight, so that the elements itself dont get distorted in any way, please tell me.

I maybe just dont know the right settings here.

@monkeybrain:

thanks

For the spline, you could edit the spline points. And give every point a correct value.

Hmm i dont see that solving my problem.

Here is what i want for the zipper elements.

Maybe im just missing something

Hope illustration is clear enough

Not in 3D-Coat. You must do it in a traditional tool and import it back to 3D-Coat. This ist not trivial.
