post-38137-0-82849200-1389629738_thumb.pCharacter I'm working on for a 15 Second short me and a few guys are working on. It's supposed to be 'a cowboy villain in a cartoony style'.

First successful attempt at rendering inside 3D coat was pleasantly surprised.

Any advice is more than welcome.

Suitably villainous. A lower lip will add much.

Thanks you very much for your reply. Yea I included some edgeloops around the mouth area because I failed at sculpting in the lips so was going to attempt it in Maya.

I can find tutorials on how to sculpt lips in Zbrush and that has helped me in the past but with this being much less anatomically correct I wasn't sure how to approach it. Do you know of any learning material that might help here?

Not really as pertaining to lower lips but I would suggest taking a stab at doing it yourself as you will learn a lot that way. Hide the mustache, show the cigar and have at it. You can do it on the model and still save a version for Maya.

couldn't find cowboys.

but this is a great source of reference material when you're trying to figure out how to get a certain look:

Thanks! Any ideas how I could make it more sinister?

I'd say the bigger and fluffier the tache the more jovial it would appear. Generally speaking, though whether or not that applies here I don't know.

Eye brows will bring his expressions out more.

When I think of sinister looking bandit/cowboys I'd say the smaller the gene pool the better. Nothing better than an inbred looking thug.

I like your cartoon style, just feel that his neck could be a little thin.

I can see where you're coming from on the front view. That definitely wouldn't have occurred to me thank you!

Thanks for this. I'm currently reading a couple of books on character design and they go into this quite a bit. It's a bit late to start changing shapes but my next character will certainly have more thought put into it.

What do you guys think of the latest render? He's currently sporting a healthier tan than he should be I'm still experiments with SSS Shaders for the first time. Also the white of the eye is quite dark I've still yet to work out why. Rendered with Mental Ray
