Is there a function like this?

This looks really nice, and practical for many different uses.

Adding dirt and grunge as a layer seems practical and convenient, in line with the functions of 3Dc.  I'd really appreciate using this on a range of projects, and I would think that many other people would find a use for it too.

In the Paint Room, you could bake Occlusion (TEXTURES menu), and perhaps on another layer...using Cavity painting, you could fill it (Fill Bucket tool) with a noise or fractal pattern. Then you could use the layer blending modes on that layer + adjust the opacity to blend it with the Occlusion layer you previously baked.

Time ago Adam Gibson do a nice tutorial showing those topics

How do you control the distribution of noise ?

first add a noise layer -fill with noise and a texture/mask selected-

Then i use a layer copy of normal map -desaturated and inverted- to mask the noise layer... sometimes some more in cavity paint is needed to refine details.

Time to request for a VRay dirt map inside 3DC ?

With the makers of Substance Designer now selling their own 3D Texture painting app ($1500  ), I asked Andrew about the prospect of incorporating some Substance Designer/dDo type functionality in 3D Coat...so it is more of a one-stop shop for texturing a model. I can't recall exactly what he said, but it sounded like he had something planned along those lines. I guess we should make a formal request on Mantis?

$1500 really? What a bummer. I thought Substance Painter was still in beta and hadn't been given a price tag yet.

I can't remember where I saw/read that...it was over the holiday's, so I'm thinking it was in something to do with their holiday sale of Substance Designer 4. Maybe on Steam or something. I was really surprised, myself. Looks like they are targeting Mari as their chief competition. Here is a quote from a CG Channel article"

"Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, although our conversations with Allegorithimic suggests that the cost of Substance Painter will probably be considerably lower than that of Mari."

sorry i was not clear,

not to add external development apps increasing the software price... just waiting Andrew schedule to add more and more useful tools to 3DC and make it a complete solution in every room.

but yes, an up to day SDK and plugin support will be a nice add to the soft.
