Carlosan
Over the past week there have been many rumors about the future of Softimage posted on various forums and social media sites. Many of you have been looking for an official confirmation or denial from Autodesk. Unfortunately, we were not in a position to respond until today as we needed to finalize all the details of our plans. But yes Softimage 2015 will be the last release of the software. I wanted to share some of those details with you: Softimage 2015 will be the last release of the software We will continue to support the software and develop hot fixes and service packs for two more years If they wish to, customers on Subscription will be able to transition to Maya or 3ds Max at no cost while retaining the right to continue to use Softimage in production/ Existing customers will be able to purchase additional seats and/or rental plans if they need to scale production Below is a copy of the letter that was sent electronically to Softimage customers today. I have copied it here as our email distribution lists not allow us to send it to those who have opted out. Because several of our partners have started posting the news early, we are responding now but please note our web sites have not had time to upload all the information yet. All the information including a detailed FAQ on www.autodesk.com/softimage. Within the next 15 minutes you can also visit http://area.autodesk.com/softimagetransition to register for a live Q&A webinar on Monday March 17th at 12pm EST. as well as see the full documentation of what is new in Softimage 2015.Maurice PatelAutodesk
Advanced Member geo_n Posted March 5, 2014 Advanced Member Share Posted March 5, 2014 The writing was on the wall since AD bought it. I was tempted to switch to xsi from 3dmax but I'm glad I didn't. Theres going to be a lot of displaced xsi users after companies slowly transition to other software and the jobs would just fall off for xsi users unless they're willing to switch which is hard to do once you've become a fanboy. Doesn't matter how good the software is if the software is EOL its better to migrate early before you're the only one using it and nobody can work with you on projects. Applink Developer haikalle Posted March 5, 2014 Applink Developer Share Posted March 5, 2014 (edited) Sad news. Softimage was a great 3d product and it really shame how it was treated this past years. One countdown has ended but other one has started. Which one next Maya or Max? Advanced Member Nossgrr Posted March 6, 2014 Advanced Member Share Posted March 6, 2014 (edited) Nothing irks me more than what AD did, buy the top 3 packages and kill one off (for now). I'm happy we have great AD alternatives, I look at Pixologic, Modo, Houdini, C4D, 3DC, LW and I'm amazed at what they come up with every year, just sad to see SI go. Carlosan
Hi everyone,When we created the initial Softimage transition plan our desire was to provide our customers with an easy, no-cost path to transition to either 3ds Max or Maya. We have been monitoring all of your feedback on the forums, including many direct conversations with our customers, and have made adjustments to the transition offering to address your concerns. As we had previously announced, a program is available to all Softimage customers on Subscription providing you with the option of migrating to 3ds Max or Maya via a bundle that will include a Softimage license until April 2016. Based on your feedback we will be adding the ability to continue to access Softimage indefinitely with your Subscription entitlement even after we stop support on Softimage in April 2016. We have heard you and we want to make sure you can continue to be able to access your Softimage projects even after the retirement of Softimage. Our intention was not to create more burden on you with this difficult change.--------Separately:As many have also asked about this, we would also like to clarify what will happen if you do not want to transition: your licenses will not stop working. Any licenses you have purchased are yours. They are perpetual licenses and will continue working whether you are on Subscription or not. You will continue to be able to contact support if you need to move a license to a new machine.maurice patelAutodesk

Carlosan
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/xsi_list/SDc-b0D3aBs[26-50-false] So here's an update from Brad concerning the coupon code for Modo... The intent of the code was for this list as a sympathetic gesture. The code has since been posted on CGSociety. Now that it's out in the wild, Brad is concerned that the original intent of the code is getting lost the further out it travels. As such, he has let us know that he plans to turn off the code in a few hours. Meanwhile, anyone here who decides they are interested can email him directly (...) As for upgrades to 801... he says this: "1. This price does not include maintenance. Mainly because we don't have an official maintenance for modo. MODO users get service packs (bug fixes not new features) for free for the duration of that major release.
