Carlosan
source... Brian Karis has shared an extensive breakdown of UE5's Nanite tool at SIGGRAPH 2021. Unreal Engine 5 has been out for less than half a year but many artists already use it to simplify their workflows. One of the tools that help the artists the most is Nanite, UE5's new virtualized geometry system which uses a new internal mesh format and rendering technology to render pixel scale detail and high object counts. It intelligently does work on only the detail that can be perceived and no more. Nanite's data format is also highly compressed and supports fine-grained streaming with an automatic level of detail. To show people what Nanite is capable of, an Engineering Fellow at Epic Games Brian Karis released a 155-pages-long document that explains literally everything there is to explain about the tool. How and why it was created, what it is able to do, what tasks can be accomplished with it, the tool's future, etc. We definitely recommend reading the entirety of the document if you want to learn more about Nanite. It can be accessed by clicking this link. Quote Link to comment https://3dcoat.com/forum/index.php?/topic/15892-unreal-engine/page/5/#findComment-176917 Share on other sites

Carlosan
Unreal Engine 5.5 is now available for download Unreal Engine 5.5 is here, with enhancements across a broad range of toolsets. Many features reach production-readiness in this release, while we continue to push boundaries with new innovations. Significant advances in UE5’s in-editor animation authoring toolset further reduce the requirement to roundtrip with DCC applications; these include nondestructive animation layers and the ability to set up dynamic cinematic scenarios in Sequencer, together with new animatable deformers inside Control Rig. On the rendering front, highlights include enhancements to Lumen, Path Tracer, Substrate, and the Movie Render Graph—which, among other improvements, now supports all asset types in Render Layers. And get ready for a sneak peek at our latest innovation, MegaLights, which makes its debut as an Experimental feature. Having already powered a myriad of productions in film, television, and commercials internationally, UE5’s in-camera VFX toolset is now fully production-ready, including support for SMPTE 2110. That categorization also now applies to many developer iteration features introduced in previous releases. Meanwhile, we’ve invested significantly in the Mobile Renderer and Mobile Previewer, making Unreal Engine a great choice for AAA mobile and cross-platform game development. These are just some of the highlights of this release. You can get more details on all the new features in our blog.
