[SOLVED] Smoothing groups changing after merging.

Recommended Posts

Hi!

When i import my LP mesh into surface mode to sculpt some details on it, after merging (after hitting "Apply" and choosing e.g. LiveClay tool) it becomes like this (on the right):

Is there a way to keep the sharp smoothing groups? Or to preserve original smoothing groups?

There are a few ways to do this for simpler models. Here is one quick method.

In the left tool panel use the Resample tool.

Resample to 500,000 or more. You can test several resampling amounts to see what works best.  You need to resample anyway to sculpt details.

The table will then take the original shape.

Picture is just of a simple table to show the results.

Thanks, it worked - the another way is to tessalate (a lot) the LP mesh before importing to 3DCoat. But it's basically the same thing as Resampling :)
