off topic but related...

looks as users are really busy and don’t have the time to enter the weeks challenges.

what about another challenge type, not competition with deadline but an open thread (forever time with weekly theme) just for fun and self improvement ?

The speedsculpt thread

- An hour sculpting exercise.

- A general theme available every week

- Can do as many as wanted, but staying in theme.

- Basemeshes allowed.

- After 1 hour sculpt, surfacepaint is allowed for final presentation.

- 3DC Render for final. Avoid any postprocessing or to use external renderer.

- Maingoal: to improve and speed up productivity and efficiency.

* rules helps for guidelines, nothing more...

is just an idea to keep the fun alive...

we can try and test the overall feeling about this

For me personally, i am not a big fan of that speed challenges, i need my time to create something "cool" and that should not be coupled to some timelimit of an hour or day.

But if the most of the members want that competition, sure, why not. Lets give it a try and start a new contest.

@carlosan

As far as i see, we have a draw, we both have 3 votes.

I think the best way would be, if you start the new contest and it is your idea, too.

Would be only fair if you start it.

@Carlosan:

A short challenge time frame must not mean, that you wont have enough time to do something.

you have to look from a different perspective.

With a weekly or weekend challenge you have 52 chances per year to join the challenge.

With monthly challenges you get the chance only 12 times at most, so if you dont join at the beginning, you dont want to join at all, and maybe you even just dont want to wait a month to join the next comp, then.

Its somehow predestinated to loose steam on the monthly projects.

Also the monthy challenges tend to aim too high in the range of tasks to be done.

Thats, what in my opinion is the time consuming part.

You will tend to invest more time on a single project in a monthly challenge, otherwise on a quick Weekend challenge, without limitation of hours, there will be maybe some People more, who opt to join in, in one of the 52 Challenge opportunities per year.

Some maybe have only 2 hours per weekend, some maybe more. Enough time for decent results in quick challenges. And you will hardly loose steam, if its just one ore two sessions

Limiting in tasks and time would help in my opinion.

I personally think that if we go with the weeklong challenges, there shouldn't be a limited number of hours, instead, let the person choose how they want to spend their time, do they want to hash out multiple short sculpts, or do they want to spend all of their time on one sculpt. Also, coming from personal experience, I'm getting better with 3d-Coat, but I don't know if I have the skill to do any sort of sculpt in an hour or less, and I'm sure other new users who aren't professionals might feel the same way, or even like Malo said, he likes to put his time into it.
