Workflow Questions

Hi Guys!

My name is Lucas and I´m a 3d artist from Brazil.

For quite some time I worked in small studios in my city and in some advertising agencies. And in these places, I usually worked with the softwares they gave to me.

But now, I´m starting to work as a freelancer and need to buy some tools to speed up my workflow.

So, I downloaded a trial version (more than a month ago), tested some stuff but due to the lack of time, I didn´t tested enough in my opinion.

In any case, just the painting tools and the UVs system alone makes me want to purchase the software, but I'm also very interested in the sculpting.

I used Zbrush for some time and at home I use Blender. I realize that each software has its own particularities (brushes´ feel, workflow, brush parameters) but right now I'm not able to test 3D Coat since my trial has passed. As far as I can remember I felt the sculpting to be a bit sluggish; but then, reading the new manual and some posts in the forum, looks like I just don't know the workflow correctly (I was probably trying to do all my sculptures in voxel mode).

All this big introduction is to ask a few questions:

In Zbrush, for example, to create a character, I would start with Zspheres -=> Adaptive Skin -=> Sculpting 'til level 3 -=> Dynamesh -=> Retopo and UVs in Blender -=> Details and Textures in Zbrush -=> Render in Blender.

In Blender, almost the same: Skin Modifier -=> Sculpt with dynamic topology -=> Retopo -=> UVs -=> Details in Multires -=> Baking/Textures -=> Render.

How I could do the same principles inside 3D Coat? I mean, in details? Like: Voxels Blocking -=> Surface Mode (when to surface? When and why to use liveclay?).

Also, as far as I can remember, for organic sculpting, the brushes felt a little odd to me. Are there any videos showing some fine tuned organic sculpting, so I can see which brushes are used more often and how they are used and adjusted for certain situations?

I know it's maybe too much and some dumb questions, but I ask you to please be patient with me ^^

Thanks in advance!

Hey carlosan, thanks a lot, I'll check this video!! :DD

I also bought a commercial license on steam today! I can already use 3dcoat's UVs, retopo and texturing tools while I'm getting used to the sculpting.

I think I'll create a sketchbook thread on the Wip section anytime soon. :D

Hey carlosan, I'm already checking all the links and the video! I also found some sculpting sessions of one of the members of the forum (BeatKitano I guess) and some demos on youtube.
I'll watch 'em all and start trying some stuff myself! :D

Thanks a lot for everything!
