What is the purpose of the VoXRay tool?

Hi,

I can see how the VoXRay  tool gives you a slice through the geometry, but do you do something with it, or is it for viewing purposes only?

It looks like a way to measure geometry.

Can't find anything on the web explaining it.

Agreed. In my opinion, it's a major No-No to drop a tool, even in Beta, that has no icon or tooltip/description. Looks really really half-baked. I know Andrew is extremely busy with major features like PBR and all, and putting out a lot of fires on the bug-squashing front, but to me...this is like a fine restaurant bringing your meal out to the table without laying down any silverware, glasses or or offering drinks to go with it. Hope that gets rectified moving forward.

You are indeed correct! It is a way to inspect MRI and other scan data. This tool is not intended for the regular public builds of 3DC, but at my request, Andrew left it in because I found it useful to inspect scan data as well. I have an unpublished document on it in the new manual, once I know it's going to remain live in the public build, I'll publish the doc on it.

 

That said, it's a pretty straight forward tool as it appears you discovered. It's an interesting way to make sure you have no holes in your scan data or other imported meshes, and allows for a quick way to make sure you have a good import.

Sure. I'll get it published to the site and post the URL. Might as well be up proper. Although I asked Andrew about whether or not the tool will stay visible in the regular versions of 3DC, but no word yet. So if it isn't in those builds, I'll pull the text off the site.
