[Solved] Splits and Joints tool not working ?

every time i try and make a split on my character it says 

 

"impossible to split object in 2 parts with this patch. 

 

then it leasts reasons why it wont split it?

 

ive googled this and i can find no information on this problem. ive tried both types of patches, no holes in the model. dont know whats up?

If you post more info about the project, will be more easy try to help.

 

Is symmetry OFF

Will you please attach a display capture

which app version are you using, which OS...

 

Gizmo Axis are used to scale the Cut area (in this example... Patch type = round patch)

Then select join type (in this example Cylinder)

Yeah, it's really hard to tell what the issue might be with so little to go on. You can ALT + SHIFT + S to save a screen capture. 3D Coat will upload it to the server. Once it has, click on the image > copy the web address. Then in your post, here, click on the little Image icon in the format bar (above your text). That lets you paste the URL of an image, which it will embed into your post

thanks for the replies gang. i couldn't log into the forums last night. 

 

in the image you can see i have a split in the middle of his arm, its not touching anything but the bicep of his arm. I've tried switching from the square to the circle shape as well. no luck. it never works, ever. i've tried multiple times. 

 

Surface mode, tried with symmetry on and off. i'm using 4.1.17. i'm starting to think this is a bug. i've tried slicing on the guys legs, same result anywhere i try and slice. ARGH! such a super useful tool for 3d printing and it wont work for me?

Can you send the work file to Andrew (support@3d-coat.com)? You can upload it directly to their server from the HELP menu. Once done, e-mail him and let him know you just uploaded and the issue you are having. 3D Coat has been a little fussy with me on the current project I am working on. It will slow down the PBR stuff, but stability should always come first.

hi gang. i had to create a new account. here is the file to test for slicing. i've tried slicing at the waist, the biceps, and the knees. it never works...

i believe those parts are polygroups. i've been doing this. 

 

Import, apply. 

 

so my character is made up of a solid voxel shape basically. 

 

...how did you get that to work carlosan? could you give me the steps you did? i've tried and tried and tried and it never works. can you slice his torso? or legs as well?

I imported the obj model at Blender using this options:

 

Smooth Groups = OFF

Split by object = OFF

Split by Groups= OFF

 

Then, with the model in one piece, i exported it again

PrintTest-NoSPLIT.zip

 

Last steps: import the new obj inside 3DC using

 

Merge

without voxelization = on

press Autoscale once

 

split and joints as desired

Is not a bug

The model is in voxel mode, you need to clean the geometry first before switch to surface mode

RMB -> fill voids + close invisible hulls

still doesn't work carlosan. i tried filling voids and closing invisible hulls and it still didn't work. 

 

Edit: 

 

I tried rotating the cut plane below the knee a little  bit and it started cutting. out of nowhere, this tool is so random. sometimes it cuts and sometimes it doesn't.

Generally I recommend decimate mesh to 400-900K.
But really there was bug, now fixed.
