Carlosan
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/krita/krita-2016-lets-make-text-and-vector-art-awesome https://ksr-video.imgix.net/projects/2332853/video-662770-h264_high.mp4 Our Goals for 2016 Krita is a FREE award-winning open source digital painting application. Dedicated to creating comics, illustrations, concept art, matte paintings: all kinds of 2D image creation! Last year, with the help of all our Kickstarter backers, we added Instant Preview and Animation Support. We updated the codebase to a new version of Qt to make Krita more future-proof. We started work on making OS X a first-class supported platform, too. We made additional improvements all over the board, from the layers panel to the shortcut configuration, from easily installable binaries for Krita to a greatly improved user manual. And those are just the highlights of eleven almost monthly releases!
PolyHertz
Seems at some point in the recent betas they updated the layer manager to be like the one in the pic I posted before, much easier to work with Now if they could just make the brush customization system more user friendly (the current one is vastly over engineered for general use). Contributor ajz3d Posted August 18, 2017 Contributor Share Posted August 18, 2017 (edited) Good job, but I'd be happier if they could focus on a better 32-bit image performance, at least matching the Photoshop's, instead of finger painting on touch screens. Advanced Member geo_n Posted December 27, 2017 Advanced Member Share Posted December 27, 2017 I'm trying this out again. I think I tried this a couple of years ago. Its really good now for my uses which is to connect to 3dcoat as external editor. Problem, when I press ctrl+p in 3dcoat to send layers to krita, it opens a new document every time with no history. Is there a way to go back and forth with 3dc and krita and keep layer history intact with one document only?
Carlosan
As i remember, cant be. It opens a new document every time with no history.
Advanced Member geo_n Posted December 27, 2017 Advanced Member Share Posted December 27, 2017 Oh that sucks. The history is pretty important. Also its strange it opens up a new layer document every time you sinc with 3dcoat. I will try gimp.

Carlosan
Krita 4.2.0 is now available brings over a thousand bugs fixed and new features including support for HDR displays. Let’s have a look. The new version adds updated support for drawing tablets, support for HDR monitors on Windows, an improved color palette docker, scripting API for animation, color gamut masking, improved selection handling, nicer handling of the interaction between opacity and flow, and some other features. The team needs your help to continue improving the tool. “With millions of downloads every year, and that number is growing rapidly, Krita is clearly very popular. That’s great! But we’re running into the limits what we can do to help people with questions and problems, and we need you all to help out, by helping your fellow Krita artists on Reddit, Ask, the Forum and all the other places”. Carlosan
https://krita.org/en/item/krita-4-2-9-released/ Today we’re finally releasing Krita 4.2.9! It’s been one of the most complicated releases we’ve ever attempted. When we updated the version of Python that’s embedded in Krita, scripting broke on Windows. When Apple updated its notarization protocol, building broke on macOS. And then we updated to a newer version of some of the libraries we build Krita on, and that broke all kinds of things. And then we needed to figure out a new way of packaging Krita for the Windows Store, which unfortunately broke our nice icons… Krita 4.2.9 however is really stable after all the testing it had during the beta period. And there are even some new features to enjoy!
Advanced Member kenmo Posted March 29, 2020 Advanced Member Share Posted March 29, 2020 Sounds like a good free alternative to ArtRage. ArtRage is not expensive but free is always better. I do love and enjoy ArtRage. But did not upgrade from ArtRage 5 to version 6. I must download Krita and give it a spin. Already have Photoshop CC, Painter 2019, Painter Essentials 7, Clip Studio for my 2D fun... :-)

Carlosan
source... Krita 5.0.5 released Today we release Krita 5.0.5, probably the last release before Krita 5.1.0 comes out, hopefully in June. Note on the numbering: you didn’t miss 5.0.3 and 5.0.4. Some stores, if they think a certain package isn’t good enough, insist you upload a package with an increased version number, and that happened twice with 5.0.2…
