Advanced Member JoseConseco Posted September 15, 2015 Advanced Member Report Share Posted September 15, 2015 I want create new layer in smart material editor, but with transparent color - I want to use depth, spec only for texturing. Is it possible to disable color influence for layer?
Contributor Michaelgdrs Posted September 15, 2015 Contributor Report Share Posted September 15, 2015 I think that you cant do that. But if you start erasing the layer 0 and play with the other layers transparency you can create a glass like material , tested by me and it works fine. Advanced Member JoseConseco Posted September 16, 2015 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted September 16, 2015 I know I can do that on paint layers, but I'm talking about layers inside smart materials.

Advanced Member JoseConseco Posted September 16, 2015 Author Advanced Member Report Share Posted September 16, 2015 Thaks ajz3d it works great! Except now new layer depth overrides depth of layer below, so I loose all bump detail from below. But I can workaround it decreasing whole layer opacity. Contributor Michaelgdrs Posted September 16, 2015 Contributor Report Share Posted September 16, 2015 So this is why those ticks are there for right? Thanks a lot man.

Yes, this looks like a limitation of Smart Materials. I think there should be some sort of a droplist to control blending mode of each channel and an alpha map slot to mask them individually. You can work around this (sort of) by creating separate layers for each channel (one for depth and one for glossiness) and add an alpha mask to those layers. It should work for simple set-ups at least: So this is why those ticks are there for right? Thanks a lot man. Initially all what those checkboxes did was to hide channels from the UI. Fortunately this was changed in version 4.5.05. (http://3d-coat.com/mantis/view.php?id=1905) Edited September 16, 2015 by ajz3d

I tested that some in past, and it just make everything transparent, even specular is erased, so it doesn't look like glass for me. Unless you know how to make layer transparent and preserve specular reflections?
