Member jima Posted November 29, 2015 Member Report Share Posted November 29, 2015 I've been working on making a glass material. I want to make both "frosted" (translucent) glass and transparent glass. Do I need a special shader for this to work? I'm still developing an intuition about pbr materials. I thought a good approach was to turn off metalness, depth and roughness and set color opacity to 50%. This still results in a flat non-shiny non-reflective surface Thanks in advance.

Member jima Posted December 2, 2015 Author Member Report Share Posted December 2, 2015 Thank you, Michael. I bought your glass set. I rate your awesomnity at 11 out of 10! I never would have guessed the final material would require 4 separate layers. Which layer would be the best to change the color if for example I'd like to create yellow glass or red, etc?
Contributor Michaelgdrs Posted December 2, 2015 Contributor Report Share Posted December 2, 2015 (edited) Greetings Jima , you are the best man , thank you for the support. For colour its the TOP COLOUR layer , its colour box!!! P.S Top gloss and base colour boxes can also be used to change the colour depending on which glass material you are using. Contributor Michaelgdrs Posted February 17, 2016 Contributor Report Share Posted February 17, 2016 (edited) Greetings Uwe and thank you for the support. 1) Set layer 0 to opacity 0 2) Create a new layer and apply the smart material , scale accordingly. 3) Play with layer 1 opacity to customize the final transparency Edited February 17, 2016 by Michaelgdrs
Contributor Michaelgdrs Posted February 17, 2016 Contributor Report Share Posted February 17, 2016 (edited) Layer 0 opacity 0 new layer named glass and smart material on this layer Edited February 17, 2016 by Michaelgdrs
Contributor Michaelgdrs Posted February 17, 2016 Contributor Report Share Posted February 17, 2016 And here i painted some strokes on the layer. Kindly also get the normal to a lower value depending your object scale (from 1 to 10 , default 100 is way high)

New Member Früg Posted July 13, 2018 New Member Report Share Posted July 13, 2018 Michael- I purchased your glass materials and I'm trying to figure out how to use them. I am making a colored gem and I need the glass to be transparent so you can see an object that is suspended in the middle of the gem. Any suggestions on the layers and the settings would be appreciated. I thought I saw an example of the glass effect on your gumroad site that was a fluorescent tube. How did you get that effect? Thanks.

Contributor Michaelgdrs Posted July 13, 2018 Contributor Report Share Posted July 13, 2018 Hi , fist of all thanks to Carlosan for notifying me. In order to get the transparency delete part of layer 0 , AO and any other layer that contains info on top of the surface that you are going to apply the glass material. Now you are ready to apply the smart material. In other words the surface that will receive the glass smart material must be transparent.
