I am looking to project 16 bit textures on to a model and wondering if it paints in 16bit or does the import reduce it to 8bit?

I tried searching but the only topic i could find was 6 years old and im not sure if has been resolved by then. Id rather not have to use mari for this.

Thanks.

Yes, it will keep 16 bits

:)

I don't think 3D Coat paints in 16bit color. I asked Andrew about this and he said it was only 8bit. It can output output 32bit displacement maps in EXR or TIFF, but otherwise 3D Coat works only in 8bit color depth

Ok so who do i believe. :)

Also, if it does retain 16 bit depth, is that still true used with projection via Photoshop?

Again this is something mari does with little effort but since i have a 3dc license i thought why not ask. Very critical question though.

Just export a color map from and open it in PS. You'll see that it's 8bit depth, and there is no current option to paint in 3D Coat in 16bit color depth, as far as I know.
