Member kait kybar Posted July 12, 2016 Member Report Share Posted July 12, 2016 Hey there. Im wondering is it possible to use 3d coat as low poly modeler? Voxels are great but they get too heavy too quickly. It would be great to have booleans in surface mode. Any ideas?
Reputable Contributor AbnRanger Posted July 12, 2016 Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted July 12, 2016 You do have booleans in Surface mode, however, Merging objects always seems to work better when in Voxel mode. But subtraction and cutting booleans in Surface mode is the best way to go. Why? Because Raul developed a means to dynamically subdivide the edges along a cut or boolean subtraction, in Surface mode. It leaves superbly crisp edges, no matter how dense or low poly your surface mesh is.

Reputable Contributor AbnRanger Posted July 12, 2016 Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted July 12, 2016 And for what it is worth, you can use the Retopo Primitives to start a low poly model from and use 3D Coat's modeling tools to build a low poly object. The TRANSFORM tool, as well as the FREE EXTRUDE tool in both Edge and Faces mode, will allow the user to extrude faces or edges on the fly, by hitting the ENTER key.
