First... Thanks for the updated tutorials...

Couple of questions.  I noticed there is no separate roughness channel.  I see metallic and a smoothness slider.

1. I do not see a separate roughness channel like the metallic channel for importing a roughness map.  Example of use would be like for plastic objects, wood. etc.  

2. Does the metallic map with the smoothness (roughness in the Alpha channel) in the map itself override the smoothness slider.

I might just be missing the roughness channel as I really just started to test the software.

 

EDIt: I think I might answer my own question number 1 but question 2 is still vaild.   The renderer is like Unity 5 putting the Smoothness (roughness) in the Alpha channel of the metallic map whereas Unreal 4 uses separate channels for Metallic and  Roughness.  Plastics, wood etc would be handled in the metallic map. Metal in the map would be none and only smoothness (roughness used)

Note:  I added Alpha channel to my question two

I see you already answered your question on your own.

Smoothness is controlling the  microsurface detail  just like in Unity 5.

You starting remind me of Andrew in the early stages of 3DC development, On fire and moving at light speed... :D 

Now if I could split me into several version of myself, Learning photoscan more, how to create a good landscape in Unreal 4, World engine a little, and throw in Instant Light in the mix and brain is stretching out big time, LOL but hey it is a good thing, keeps my 64 year brain well oiled...

Hey Michael, that's a really amazing update. Do you think that the procedural hair & clothes engine could be one day a plug-in in 3DC ? Or maybe it's not how it works ? I'm on a Mac so I can't try it :/.

 

My workflow ATM (I'm a concept artist) is : 3DC for sculpting -> MD for the clothes -> zbrush ONLY for fibermesh -> keyshot for shaders & rendering. I have no UVs and I don't retopo. I looking for a way to stop having to use zbrush just for fibermesh. It'd be amazing to have something like this in 3DC, but I know that Andrew is really busy on some other stuffs.

if you ask me personally i would love to see a tighter integration to 3DC as its my main tool of work regarding many aspects  , and to be honest we are working on this direction to see if we can pass the hair creation , this is under our own testing , we have talked with Andrew in general , and he is positive regarding Instant Light in general.

Andrew  supported me so many times and ways , same with Don , Javis , Carlos and soooooo many other 3D Coat members.

Planning to return those kind gestures , in many ways.

 

I cant comment on other softwares , all are good in there own way  , Instant Light is my personal creation , a tool to get me all i wanted in work in one app.

More than 2 years in development , never had a UI , all hard coded with command lines.

 

I will never stop developing , and once out of BETA you will see so many new things coming up.

Look Dev 360 and 360 interactive rotation fast tutorial 1) Select mesh from editor with LEFT click as usual (not from Treeview) 2) RIGHT click on it (not left click on it as the tool-tip says , typo error) 3) Press the Icon

Eager to try this out on a few assets as soon as possible. :)

Could there please be a couple functions added so it can stop draining all the power the whole time?

like a sleep mode when the program is minimized and a stop rendering once the image is "final"?

an FPS limiter could also help, right now it renders with over 220 FPS. ;)

Greetings @myclay , 

a proper tutorial will be uploaded today showing all new features in action.

Regarding your questions / requests

1) Stop rendering can be achieved only in when users is in Editor mode , and with the current Dx 11 and Dx 12 routines it gives bugs.

We are working on an alternative solution

 

2) FPS must be as high as possible , realtime hair and cloth (currently under heavy development) needs a lot of horse power to get a 40 / 45+ fps.

We want to be be extremely fast and we are tweaking all the time for this to happen.

If you need to get it down you can enable (Nvidia panel) the Vsync and it will drop the FPS down to your monitors FPS.

We are currently working on the settings tab and an FPS drop will be included.

Instant Light is getting more and more polished. Very nice work... Even without much tweaking I am liking the render quality.

I sent in a few bug reports today using the newest beta.

The 3DC bridge is that working now?  When I click the 3DC icon in the UI, I get the message shown in the picture.  Maybe I am doing something wrong. 3DC is open, running with the file saved. I am in the paint room with a baked from the retopo room model.

2) IL part

 

Currently only IL part is ready , 3D Coat part will be available shortly i hope.

Will personally check your bug list today , we are under heavy refactoring and API updating currently before the big release.

I would really like to see a 3DC to ILRT workflow tut. "Import + Export " One with a simple static and one with a animation. Do you think this can be shown?

JFYI : It is hard to understand you, with all that buzzing in the background

And Will there be a EXPORT to UE4? #Plugin maybe? This is where I would like to see my Art come to life and with your  POLY HAIR / CLOTH POLY  I could see this being apart of my workflow.

Do you plan to add Live Material to Mesh support as well? " Particles"  EXP ( FIRE BALL) ( DUST on Animated Mesh) Would be cool to know.

And will there be a UI Theme changer, I am somewhat C-blind and this blue gives me a very uncanny feeling and kills any interest of trying to get my hands dirty.

Will the UI be in future updates more expandable like used with multi screens? / 4k? ++

getting straight into your questions.

 

3DC / IL is not fully finished yet. We are working on it , more bridges are coming up soon as we made contact with several platform holders and more than 90% where super positive on IL.

Ordered a new mic for the recordings , its the workstations noise that you hear there.

Poly cloth and Procedural cloth are already in (in our version in studio) , hoping to get them both in final Instant Light , was holding this as a surprise but since you asked here they are ;)

 

Live material to mesh what do you mean? Interactive materials in IL can get in any mesh you import. For Particles onto mesh is in our TODO list , in fact its out of alpha with great results allready , just needs to be polished.

UI theme changer will be in the final IL , in the next coming releases before Final Instant Light.

Multi screens , we have tested so far , but results where not so great , so many things to take under control , we left this for later releases 1.4 1.5.

 

Crashes is something i care a lot , on my hands , and trust me i use it a looottttt , it crashed 2 times and i knew it was going to crash with the model i imported.

If you remember how it crashed i would like you to send a bug report at support@instantlightrt.com and explain it please.

 

For buying it , i will just say it as simple as i can , just buy it , you will never regret it , updates are going to be so many and constant (not one tiny SUB feature and call it a version like most apps do nowadays) that IL can easily become your /  to the rescue tool /  very very easily. 

And if you buy it for $40 ohh , we dont have to discuss it at all.

Thanks for the link at the Instant Light website for the free Exr-IO plugin for Photoshop. Photoshop compositing for the 12 layers that IL exports in the open exr format. Cool beans... :declare:
