[Solved] can 3d coat export uv sets as udims for Mari ?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a udim workflow from 3d coat to mari. I know that I can unwrap my uv's into separate tiles in 3d coat, but is there a way to export those tiles as udims for mairi? I've been searching for an answer on this and I am unclear if this is something I can do with 3d coat.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

Max

Hi Max! Welcome. :)

When you are exporting, from the export prompt, there is a tick box that says "Export tiles as UDIMs". That should do the trick.

Thank you javis, I can't find that tick box but I've checked the box to export as uv sets and it seems to work in mari, new to this side of 3d, been using zbrush for years but always been afraid of uv's! Time to learn :)

Unfortunately they will get numbered incorrectly, so you'll have to go into the UV editor and rename each tile to it's correct UDIM.

Each UV tile must be a 'UV set' in 3dcoat.

The basic workflow:

import your obj and make sure "Import Tiles as UV Sets" is on

in the UV room in the set dropdown you'll see 1001, 1002 etc for each of your UDIM tiles.

go to File/Export Objects and Textures

check "Export UV Sets as Tiles"

you'll get textures for each UV tile. The name of the UV set will be used in the exported file name of the map.

If, when you apply these output textures, you find that the UDIM number in the files don't match to the correct UV tiles (1001 -> u 0, v 0, 1002 -> u 1 v 0 etc), you have to rename the sets in the UV room, by clicking on the set drop down, and choosing rename.

Thanks Jamie, that's very helpful information. I think I'm starting to understand the concepts behind it, I'm probably making it way more complicated than it needs to be.
