Triangulate retopo model on export?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Is there a way to instruct 3D-Coat to explicitly triangulate a mesh exported from the retopo room? I need this because I want to use the model in Unreal Engine 4 and Substance Painter, and both use different algorithms for triangulation. I've tried triangulating the exported model in Blender, but that just made it "blocky".

Cheers,
Dave

You can triangulate a retopo mesh during texture baking by enabling the Triangulate option, then just export the model from the Paint Room.

Thank you so much, this is just what I was looking for!

I haven't really considered going into the Paint room as I've only thought of it as a means to... paint :P Turns out it has some handy extra functionality to it. Thanks again!

Glad that it helped, and yes 3D Coat really is a treasure trove of features just waiting to be explored!  :)

I must admit despite owning both Substance Painter/Designer and Quixel neither of them get very much use in my current workflow as I find the tools in 3D Coats Paint Room to be more than adequate for most tasks and constantly switching apps and importing/exporting files can be such a pain at times. :D
