pattern textures vs UV mapping

I get why using a UV map that the software can't guess properly how to match up the textured smart shader.

I don't get why the default cube mapping tries to ... I dont even know, overlay random bits of texture on top of each other ?

Is there a way to actually put a patterned texture over a model without getting either awful seam issues, or this odd messyness ?

I'm quite interested in 3dcoat, I like how easy it is to make the pbr shaders and get good effects, but I keep having these kinds of seam issues, even if I generate UVs in 3dcoat (which I usually dont, I have software I like much more for UV mapping).

I might not have been clear enough in my initial post. The issue is, as you can see in the 2nd picture where I am using UV projection, that in UV projection the tiling of the patterned texture becomes very obvious at the seams.

I've noticed this is an issue anytime you need to UV across a raised area (breasts, hills on terrain, etc.) is there some way to lessen how obvious the seam lines are or do I need to manually feather over them with other brushes ?

Yes, the tiling of the patterned texture becomes very obvious at the seams.

The areas that need to have continuity in textures must be on the same UV island. Only a good UVlayout solves that problem.
