How to merge imported normal map with imported color map

I have imported an obj file along with it's normal and color maps.

I would like to clone the color and normal maps simultaneously but cannot seem to do this.

I have noticed that the important normal map is different than the way the displacement is stored on the color layer.

Is it possible to merge my imported normal map with my imported color layer so that I can use the clone tool as normal?

Change Blending Mode from Normal Map to Standard Blend

Select Transform/Copy tool (just below ) clone tool.

Copy paste an area in the same layer.

Switch back Blend Mode to Normal map.

This steps help your workflow ?

Hi I'm back at something similar.

I'd like to convert an imported normal map to a normal/editable 3D-Coat paint layer that has (at least) a depth channel.

Is it possible? And if no, why not? It seems like an obvious functionality.

Thanks in advance!

--Shift Studio.

edit: I've changed the normal map layer to 'standard' blend and desaturated it. I can paint on it, but can't clone. Seems so strange!

Any news about this?
