New Member verbal007 Posted January 24, 2018 New Member Report Share Posted January 24, 2018 I have imported an obj file along with it's normal and color maps. I would like to clone the color and normal maps simultaneously but cannot seem to do this. I have noticed that the important normal map is different than the way the displacement is stored on the color layer. Is it possible to merge my imported normal map with my imported color layer so that I can use the clone tool as normal?

Carlosan
Switch on the option Through all layers on tool options. On this example i cloned layer1 and layer2 color and depth channels in layer3
Member Shift Studio Posted July 13, 2018 Member Report Share Posted July 13, 2018 Thanks Carlosan. This doesn't seem to work when the depth info is coming from an imported normal map... Would love to just get that normal map into a regular 3D coat layer that contains depth info. Can that be done? Thanks, Shift Studio
Carlosan
Change Blending Mode from Normal Map to Standard Blend Select Transform/Copy tool (just below ) clone tool. Copy paste an area in the same layer. Switch back Blend Mode to Normal map. This steps help your workflow ?
Member Shift Studio Posted July 14, 2018 Member Report Share Posted July 14, 2018 Hi Carlosan. Thanks for that technique. I still would like to clone colour and depth info at the same time, and this doesn't allow it. And the depth I'm referring to is coming from an imported normal map. Any other ideas? --shift studio. Carlosan
Sadly no, clone tool works with "Depth" channel but will not work on External imported normalmap layer. It is not implemented.
Member Shift Studio Posted July 9, 2019 Member Report Share Posted July 9, 2019 (edited) Hi I'm back at something similar. I'd like to convert an imported normal map to a normal/editable 3D-Coat paint layer that has (at least) a depth channel. Is it possible? And if no, why not? It seems like an obvious functionality. Thanks in advance! --Shift Studio. edit: I've changed the normal map layer to 'standard' blend and desaturated it. I can paint on it, but can't clone. Seems so strange! Carlosan
Is it possible? Sadly no. Imported normal maps are locked and cant be editable. Import and use it as base ref. Create a new layer to paint over depth channel adding details. Both are merged at export.
