Member fractionalist Posted April 8, 2018 Member Share Posted April 8, 2018 (edited) EDIT: Misprint, its 20,480px x 20,480px TIFF RGB @ 300 DPI. Not 20,480kb !!! Sheesh! I make print designs for sublimation fabric printing and use large files - however, 3dCoat is unique in that it presents a limit on the file size I can load into the Smart Materials Editor - beginning with the COLOR texture map - if it is TOO large. Out of Memory with Win7 Prof 64byte, 32DDR3, GTX GeForce 1080ti, 500gb Seagate, loading any image file larger than 10,240px x 10,240px TIFF RGB @ 300 DPI. See illustrated specs & interface. Everything is updated and other than opening large files (1g sized files) everything is smooth, below the above mentioned file size. These files open in Blender and other programs (I.e., Adobe CS4 Fireworks & PhotoShop etc!) without a hitch! Just not 3dCoat! SUGGESTION: Why not have a setting in USER PREFERENCES to adjust the virtual memory allocation? NOTE: Here's a 50 USD tip for designers~! Happy to announce no import duty on clothing imported into the USA as long as its registered TradeMark in China! Phew! China just cut the trademark fees 50%! It's weekend, so not pressed (I'm in China, so holidays for a few days - )... got a few days off! Cheers & thank you! Carlosan
Hello SOS reported to support@3dcoat.com I tested your issue: Any pic at 20480x20480, exported as tiff or tif using compression none or lzw crash 3DC. none file size = 1.17GB lzw file size = 25.7 MB but same pic exported as png with file size = 25.18MB dont crash same pic exported as TGA with file size = 1.17GB dont crash. - workaround solution: dont use any tif or tiff image with file size above 1GB. TGA is a good substitute.
Member fractionalist Posted April 8, 2018 Author Member Share Posted April 8, 2018 Thank you! CLARIFICATION I'm importing the large image file into 3dc Smart Material Editor, rather than exporting out from 3dc. CAVEAT This large 1g is perfectly happy in BLENDER, ADOBE CS4 and several other software programs. What's the issue in 3dc, is there a BUG, if so, is it possible to write permission to increase 3dc's ability to handle large files. What, exactly, makes 3dc unstable? Why the file size limit in 3dc? SOLUTION If I cobble together the following hardware configuration, which would be: (4x8)32DDR4 memory, AMD 1950 ThreadRipper 16core, a cooler, 1000w power supply, several 1tb HDrives & my current GTX Geforce 1080ti - and a blazing fast Motherboard, would that SOLVE the 3dc crash problem? None what? No crash? "lzw file size = 25.7 MB" Crashes, yes or no? "TGA is a 'good' substitute?" Means what? Doesn't crash? What 'exporting'? I'm IMPORTING into 3dc. Typo error? You meant importing? 64,000 QUESTION: Is the new hardware a waste of $$$? It won't fix 3dc inability to handle these large files, yes or no? Carlosan
you welcome Please try this steps: - Import the large image file into 3dc Smart Material Editor using TGA file format (above 1GB) and keep us informed if any crash.
Member fractionalist Posted April 8, 2018 Author Member Share Posted April 8, 2018 (edited) Carlosan, 256,000kb file 20,480px x 20,480px 16bit compressed RGB @ 300 DPI works! Problem solved! Thank you! Edited April 8, 2018 by fractionalist change image
Member fractionalist Posted April 9, 2018 Author Member Share Posted April 9, 2018 NOTE A 1gb+ TIFF file converted to TGA & compressed is abouit 250,000kb, and works fine, no need to increase the size of the TGA to 1gb...
Member fractionalist Posted April 10, 2018 Author Member Share Posted April 10, 2018 QUESTION Is this an optimal system for 3dc, and will it increase 3dc ability to handle 1g files? this is opposed to my current system which is a 4-core i7-4790 processor with 32 DDR3 (as opposed to DDR4) and of course an older ASUS motherboard... already have the GTX-GeForce 1080ti Graphics Card. I can't help wondering why 3dc has limits on the file size it can handle, and why a snippet of code or tweak isn't available to increase the virtual memory for 3dc to handle 1g files... IS THIS OPTIMAL FOR 3DC to handle 1g files, or will the limit in 3dc still make it crash? 1 USD = 6.3 RMB (China) CPU AMD RYZEN Threadripper 1950X 16-Core / 32 Threads 3.4 GHz Socket sTR4 8000 RMB MOTHERBOARD ASUS ROG ZENITH EXTREME sTR4 AMD X399 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 Extended ATX AMD Motherboard uses DDR4 2000 RMB MEMORY G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2979 RMB COOLER Enermax Liqtech TR4 360 AIO Liquid CPU Cooler, Support 500W+TDP 859 RMB POWER CORSAIR HXi Series HX1000i 1000W 80 PLUS PLATINUM Haswell 1279 RMB BOX 300 RMB
