Carlosan
Hello everybody, Finally, after two years of intense work, the FreeCAD community is happy and proud to announce the release 0.17 of FreeCAD. You can grab it at the usual places, either via the Downloads page or directly via the github release page. There are installers for Windows and Mac, and an AppImage for Linux. Our Ubuntu Stable PPA is also updated with the new version. The list of changes and new features is big. Check the Release notes for a full dose. I will resume things a bit here, and, for once, I won't talk about BIM or Arch but about other workbenches. There is also a video showing the main highlights on the forum.
Member Spacetime Posted April 11, 2018 Member Share Posted April 11, 2018 Best (only?) free software 3D CAD solution. I use FreeCAD and Fusion 360 for 3D print.
Advanced Member kenmo Posted April 18, 2018 Advanced Member Share Posted April 18, 2018 Interesting. I wonder how it compares to MOI3D (already own MOI3D).

I wonder how it compares to MOI3D (already own MOI3D). FreeCAD is BREP modeling, MOI is NURBS modeling. The two are related but different. If you were going to design a car's aerodynamic body, you'd use NURBS modeling. If you were going to design a car's brake system or engine, you'd use BREP. You can do some pretty fine work in MoI... New Member oJAHRASTAo Posted April 25, 2018 New Member Share Posted April 25, 2018 OnShape is free for the basic account, but know that all your projects will be public and accessible unless you pay for the license. Otherwise, it is pretty good, and is being developed by a bunch of prior SolidWorks devs.
Member Spacetime Posted April 25, 2018 Member Share Posted April 25, 2018 Autodesk Fusion 360 is powerfull, easy to use and free for startups (making less than $100,000 per year). Its a desktop software but projects save on cloud (not so nice). Continuous updates and new features. https://www.autodesk.de/products/fusion-360/overview
