Hey guys,

It's my first time on 3D Coat, and i have a problem when i want to import my mesh in 3d coat, there is dark areas on the mesh:Capture4.thumb.JPG.064339dcc60f36e7f7340576f3ea96bc.JPGCapture5.thumb.JPG.1ec2854dd22dd5e6bb14d0f7e8dc9f73.JPG

And when i import my normal map on the mesh, there is some weird shapes on this areas:

So if you have any idea if the problem come from my mesh or my importation in 3d Coat, let me know.

Btw, here is what my mesh look like:

For information, i did the retopology on Topogun, not 3D Coat.

Thanks.

Can you share the model? Easier to test.

Also what was your method of importing the model. Which Room and workflow.

You can pm me with a link if you want the model to stay private.

Hey, here is the link for the mesh:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/14L5t7evxG8W7T2e6GCnMA4fOXrv-rH0m?usp=sharing

There is 2 .obj: - The first one is the original mesh on 3Ds max, before Zbrush.

- The second one is the retopology of my Zbrush.

For importing my model, I simply use the option on the starter menu "Paint on a model with UV" and i import my obj.

I start to believe, that the problem come from my retopology mesh.

I check the model in a few 3D applications and the shading problems were in them all. This is not a problem of 3DC as you started to surmise in your last post.

Without going into specific details.

A few un-welded vertices.

Some edges that have no bevels need them.

Some Non-planar quads.

Very long skinny triangles can cause artifacts at times.

Seems you have some random smoothing groups on the body of the sword.

Check out Polycount's website. Lots of good information there to address triangle shading problems, when and where to bevel, smoothing groups, normal maps with smoothing groups,  etc...

Yes you will have to dig around and Google for more information...

Suggestion: When modeling check in smooth shade every so often as you work. This will revel any problems along the way and they can be fixed then.

Okay, the problem comes from my mesh as I had suspected.

Thank you very much for taking the time to check where the problem might come from and I will take care of your remark and your advice.

Thanks for the help :)
