Design dimensions, and using 2D planes as dimension references

Hello,

I recently purchased the full version of 3D Coat Professional and am struggling with a matter.

I've attached a 3ds Max image for illustration purposes.

I want to create 2D planes that are a specific size in units and will be used as 2D dimension references. Just as an example, imagine a web design template in Photoshop that has set dimensions for you to work in.

I have watched more tutorial videos than I would like to admit and still have not come to a solution.

  1. I don't want to use a thin Cube Primitive. It creates unnecessary geometry.
  2. I don't want to use a Cube Primitive and then delete faces.
  3. The 'Free Form Patch' only has thickness and doesn't let me specify the Width and Height.
  4. I have tried doing this with the Measure tool but it is not suitable for this task.
  5. I don't want to add a a single reference image that already has the planes drawn in.

i. Is there something I am missing to easily create a 2D plane Primitive of a specific numerical size? I can do this in a matter of seconds in 3DS Max/Maya, but I've been stuck with this for days.

ii. Additionally, is there a way I can set a numerical value to objects size in units after creation and not work with Scale?

Thank you,

Martin

Hi

In a matter of seconds in 3DS Max/Maya and then import it to 3dcoat. That i think could be the fast way.

Or create Primitives > FreeFormPatch with Thickness = 0.1
