Carlosan
Did you install the software as an administrator? Is there any antivirus blocking the program?
Carlosan
The folder /temp was created ?
Member Jesse Posted July 4, 2018 Author Member Report Share Posted July 4, 2018 It was installed as Admin, I'll try the action with the anti virus turned off. It creates the folder but doesn't do anything with it i think. Edit: Still has the same issue with the anti virus turned off
Carlosan
Edit > Preferences > External 2D Editor 2D editor application is pointed correctly ? Member Jesse Posted July 4, 2018 Author Member Report Share Posted July 4, 2018 The app directory is fine and it opens Photoshop but not with the associated file. I'll try a few more approaches and if i can't fix it i'll send an email. Thanks!
Carlosan
Excuse me for not being more helpful. I do not remember a similar problem reported.
Member Jesse Posted July 4, 2018 Author Member Report Share Posted July 4, 2018 No worries! I had a look through google and these forums and couldn't find a similar issue either. Thanks for your time

Member Jesse Posted July 5, 2018 Author Member Report Share Posted July 5, 2018 Is there a way to change where it writes the file?

Member Jesse Posted July 5, 2018 Author Member Report Share Posted July 5, 2018 I tried using the command prompt to redirect writing the file elsewhere but the same error comes up trying the original directory still. I may not have done the link properly though.
Carlosan
Hi Probably access to Documents folder locked. It may happen if Google/Sky/... drive attached to Documents folder. Try to run 3D-Coat as Administrator. Andrew
Andrew Shpagin
Try to relocate 3D-Coat's data to some other folder. Create the file 3D-Coat-install-folder\coat_data_path.txt and put there the path to data folder, for example c:\3dcoat_data\
Member Jesse Posted July 6, 2018 Author Member Report Share Posted July 6, 2018 I don't think i understand what your asking. I tried reinstalling 3D coat into another drive but that didn't work. It still tries to write to the documents folder.
Andrew Shpagin
Are you sure you created coat_data_path.txt not coat_data_path.txt.txt ? From the screen it looks like second one, but not sure.
Member Jesse Posted July 6, 2018 Author Member Report Share Posted July 6, 2018 Yeah it is right, it just displays it on the side.

Usually explorer shows all extensions (if you set [x] Show extensions) or skips extensions in other case (it shows only extensions of unknown types). In your case I see that this option unchecked (.exe not shown). But I see coat_data_path.txt instead of coat_data_path It means you created coat_data_path.txt.txt instead of coat_data_path.txt. Just rename coat_data_path.txt -> coat_data_path
Member Jesse Posted July 6, 2018 Author Member Report Share Posted July 6, 2018 Ohhh you were right! my bad, copy and pasted the text so it doubled. What needs to be in the text file? the directory it's attempting to write the temp file for Photoshop or something else?
Andrew Shpagin
There should be path to folder that keep 3d-coat's different work data - scenes, settings, brushes etc... Like c:\3dcoat_data\
Member Jesse Posted July 6, 2018 Author Member Report Share Posted July 6, 2018 That related stuff appears to be in the Documents folder. c:\3dcoat_data\ doesn't exist. or in the drive where the install folder is
Carlosan
You need to create that folder manually.
