Autopo problems

Hello,

just started witht the trial for autoretopoing my scan from Photoscan. I need the object to remain in it's exact position. If I import the mesh via file - import for autopo, the mesh is relative tiny compared to the grid scene scale. Also once I drew my curves and hit next nothing happens. The other approach was to go into sculpt and import file - object I at least get the maintain scene scale dialog and the tool options and when hitting auto scale it becomes reasonable large (does this maintain the correct position, scale upon exporting the model back to photoscan?). Now I go into autopo and it calculates after drawing my curves and gives a mesh that is inside the volume of my mesh and only consist out of a couple polys (completely chaotic and unusable) even though I set my poly count to 10000 which should be sufficient.
Quick help is appreciated as I have a little bit of time pressure to get it working.

10,000 for a Photoscan is probably not sufficient. Remember, Auto-Retopo generally produces evenly spaced quads, so the poly count is probably going to be much higher than what you expect. It's not an optimized mesh one would create for games or for character animation. It can be a good first step, but it's not a "Make Game-Ready Mesh" tool. The same goes for all Auto-Retopo tools, no matter which app you use.

Have you watched any of the Auto-Retopo videos? They explain that it's best to create a dummy copy that has fewer details and is smoother than the original, just for Auto-Retopo purposes. Unnecessary surface level details just increase the degree of difficulty and failure rate. So use the K.I.S.S. Method when working with Auto-Retopo tools in any app.
