I am using Affinity Photo to edit some textures in the paint room using CTRL+P

Is there a way to get these edits back into 3D Coat and apply the changes to the model? I don't really want to have to save out the images from Affinity and then re-import as this loses the layer stack.

Any ideas?

Hi

The Photoshop exporter requires the presence of Photoshop to work.

3DC export the painted detail as a Photoshop Document and therefore that PSD can be opened/imported into both Photoshop CC and Affinity Photo.

However without Photoshop, the file save/export from Affinity Photo as a Photoshop Document, can not be open/import as the same PSD exported from PShop with same layer hierarchy.

It is AP incompatibility with that file format.

//Edit

Thx digman for sharing an useful workaround.

Do not use the save function in Affinity Photo.

Use the export function instead. Set it up to export a PSD file.

This requires a couple of extra steps and 3DC will be updated correctly.

Do not change the name the of the file or folder that is exported as 3DC will not update.

Hey! Just to elaborate (cause it took me some time to figure out), the name of the file exported by 3DC should something like "Layers.psd" and it's found in your 3DC folder. So ...[whatever drive 3DC in ex. Documents]..../3DCoat/data/Temp. You can save the Affinity file as an Affinity file where ever you like, but it wont update in 3DC. Like digman said, if you want 3DC to update anything you've done in Affinity, you need to export the file as a PSD into the afore mentioned Temp folder and overwrite the .psd file there.

Two tips:
1- When you add new layers or elements in Affinity, it usually doesn't name the layer. Be sure to give it a name before re-exporting it back to 3DC.
2- So you sent the file to Affinity, exported it back to 3DC, and you want to send it back to Affinity for more touchups. For me the "Sync Layer..." option or reselecting "Edit All Layers...." did not work if I still had the file open in Affinity. Just close the working doc in Affinity (not the whole program just the window tab) and THEN hit "Edit All Layers in Ext. Editor" and 3DC should reimport it to Affinity ready to go.
