Hi everyone,

I am currently having problems with the sculpt room, I can only sculpt on the volume that has the mesh on it, if I create a new volume and try to sculpt, nothing happens :/ I honestly have no idea what is happening, pleaseee help!

Here is the file, let me know if anyone can sculpt on a new volume!

Thank you for any replies!

Nothing special

1. File-->import-->Import mesh for voxelizing

2. Scale up your model to desired resolution (bigger scale = higher resolution of voxels) Click apply in Tool Options palette, or hit Enter. Your mesh will be voxelized. Also select "Yes" when asked to remember original model position.

So long story short, I basically cannot use layers in 3DCoat like I would use them in software like Mudbox? To sculpt on an object it has to be on the layer that the object is on?  I have done everything said above and still I cannot sculpt on a new layer, only on the layer the object is on, I have tried V4.9, as well as the Scale startup you have so kindly added (thank you so much for that) but nothing seems to be working :/ When trying t sculpt on my desired layer the drawing automatically goes onto the layer with the object on it. (It's very frustrating) :(

Thank you very much for the ongoing help!

No worries.  Could you see if you can sculpt on the top layer in this file the layer is Volume40.  It should work if not then let me know I added it as a mesh and it did sculpt on it.  Also the origin of your model is below the actual model itself.  And when I open it, it is turned 90 degrees.  Let me know you can actually sculpt on that layer.  Also if you have overlapping layers try using the ghost mode on the layer you don't want to influence.  In the voxel layer panel press the sphere between the eye icon and the V icon.  That should toggle ghost mode, and if you then select the layer you want to sculpt on it should work.

Also, I don't know much about how mudbox sculpting operates, and I am still more of a novice in 3dcoat as well.  Let me know if it works.

Mystic Teacup,  . The vox tree layers are independent of each other . You can only sculpt on the layer you have highlighted. (like layers in photoshop) The layer is just an area where your model resides . You dont sculpt through all the layers at the same time.

         There is an actual version of 3dcoat that has a feature called "sculpt layers" where the actual model can have sculpt layers sort of embedded in itself, maybe that is what you need?  Go to the download page and select the version of 3dcoat that has SL in the name ( Ive never used it so not sure how it works )
