Assistance Needed - Selecting Regiond

I recently installed the 3D Coat Modding program after trying out the original 3D Coat program, and was wondering if there is a way to select specific regions and paint only within that selection. For example, in Photoshop, I can use the pen, lasso, or even a shape marquee to select a region for active editing only. This is a draft but I was wondering if, and how I could precisely select and color in the rings within the handguard; I sketched the design intent roughly to better explain the region. Also, as you can see in the third image, it highlights the upper and lower handguard assembly as a whole.

There's the snowflake which will freeze areas, you could maybe freeze around the bits you don't want to paint? There's also a magic wand thing which seems to do a similar thing but for colours.

It's a bit of an arseabout way to do it but I don't know any better ^_^;
