How do I get rid of the Reference Mesh?

I imported architectural geometry from Blender as a reference mesh so I could add sculpted elements to the scene while making sure the size and proportions were appropriate to the room. Now I want to retopologise those sculpted elements but the reference mesh won't allow it. All manual interactions in the retopology room can only be done on the reference mesh. How do get rid of the reference mesh so I can retopologise my object without interference?
